BE HOLY
BE HOLY
Happy Mother’s Day:
War on the family unit
1 Praise the Lord!
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
Who delights greatly in His commandments.
2 His descendants will be mighty on earth;
The generation of the upright will be blessed.
Here at Reign Church we live to know Him and make Him known:
Everything we do at the church is to help you know God in a deeper way
A win for us as a church is that we meet with God on a daily basis
Just as much as just coming to church doesn’t make you a christians
Being a christian is just the start of knowing God
You can really good at playing church but not knowing God
How do we know God?
We worship
We pray
We read his word
We serve his purpose
When we meet with God, he does a work in us so he can work through us
Holiness of God
he’s separate he’s different from anything else we don’t treat Him the
We revere, respect, adorn, honor, worship only Him because he is Holy
Pastor Jordan talked about Consecration
The act of making something Holy
Setting apart
I’m here to tell you:
When you have a healthy Fear of God, it moves us to Holiness
Righteousness is right standing W/ God through the blood of Jesus
It’s what God gave us John 3:16
What we in turn give back to Him is a surrendered life to his commandments and His will
We live a life of Holiness
1 Peter 1:15–16 (NKJV)
15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
Leviticus 11:44, 19:2, 20:7
Leviticus:
Israel has been freed from slavery in Egypt, and they’ve gathered at the foot of Mount Sinai to enter into a covenant relationship with God.
As soon as they agreed to the relationship, they rebelled and violated terms of the covenant.
The Lord desires to dwell among his people so that he might bless them with his presence.
Not to instruct them from the sky, but dwell among them
The purpose of Leviticus is to instruct Israel concerning how to maintain holiness as a whole
How they should conduct themselves in order to know God as a people
IT WAS A CALL TO LIVE DIFFERENTLY
Sometimes while reading Leviticus it’s hard to digest
The book of Leviticus is essentially the template for the atonement of Jesus:
Find Jesus in the text of the old testament, not only types and shadows but literal appearances
Three Key Words Stick out in the Book of Leviticus:
Holiness- The holiness of God and His call for the Israelites to be holy because God is holy
Atonement-The reconciliation between God and His people by the shedding of sacrificial blood as a substitute so that the Israelites may be declared clean, pure and redeemed.
Sacrifice- The offering of sacrifice was the foundational act the Israelites utilized to worship God through obedience to the sacrificial guidelines God provided.
5 Types of Sacrifice:
Burnt offering
Grain offering
Peace offering
Sin offering
Trespass offering
2 Categories:
Voluntary Offering- Burnt, Grain, Peace
Mandatory- Sin and the Trespass
1. The Sin offering is first:
1 Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a person sins unintentionally against any of the commandments of the Lord in anything which ought not to be done, and does any of them, 3 if the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, then let him offer to the Lord for his sin which he has sinned a young bull without blemish as a sin offering. 4 He shall bring the bull to the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord, lay his hand on the bull’s head, and kill the bull before the Lord. 5 Then the anointed priest shall take some of the bull’s blood and bring it to the tabernacle of meeting.
Hebrews tells us without the shedding of blood there is no remission of Sin
There was no optioning this sacrifice
In order for God to meet with the people, this had to take place
In order for the people of Israel to be reconciled it was required that they make a sacrifice to
On Yom Kippur (day of atonement) every year:
“For on this day He will forgive you, to purify you, that you be cleansed from all your sins before G‑d.”
It is know to the Jews as the Holiest day
The most set apart
Jesus through His blood on calvary became our final sacrifice
11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Jesus became our necessary sacrifice so we didn’t have to
The wages of Sin is death but the Gift of God is eternal life
For most of us we are perfectly ok with Jesus doing all of the sacrificing
But we can’t be bothered with making any sacrifices ourself
Most Christians stop at the mandatory sacrifice of Christ and never go further with their intimacy with God cause
Cause they couldn’t possibly pick up the Bible and read his word
We couldn’t possibly be inconvenience with living a life set apart from everyone else around us
They might think we’re weird
A lot of people give up on their Christian walk when it comes to sacrifice because it causes them pain
I think we’ve done a disservice to everyone to say God loves you just the way you are, AND HE DOES
But he Didn’t pay such a huge price for you to stay that way
Through Jesus’ blood we have the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
The spotless lamb Jesus made us the righteousness of God
when you make Jesus the Lord of your life
You can’t get anymore righteous than you already are
Our Response to the gift of His righteousness; Is Holiness
Be Holy for I am Holy
2. The burnt offering:
1 Now the Lord called to Moses, and spoke to him from the tabernacle of meeting, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When any one of you brings an offering to the Lord, you shall bring your offering of the livestock—of the herd and of the flock.
3 ‘If his offering is a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish; he shall offer it of his own free will at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord. 4 Then he shall put his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him. 5 He shall kill the bull before the Lord; and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall bring the blood and sprinkle the blood all around on the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of meeting.
11 He shall kill it on the north side of the altar before the Lord; and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall sprinkle its blood all around on the altar. 12 And he shall cut it into its pieces, with its head and its fat; and the priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire upon the altar; 13 but he shall wash the entrails and the legs with water. Then the priest shall bring it all and burn it on the altar; it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the Lord.
You shall bring it All
Bring it all
Even when it’s voluntary there are still rules
If we Truly have a Fear of God we will want to give Him everything
A little porn is ok
A little lying is ok
A little gossip is fine
A little anger is ok as long as I’m not violent
A little flirting with my coworker is ok
Stop it!
4:50am I was woken up this morning thinking about Cain and Abels sacrifice:
4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
6 So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
When our sacrifice is not looked upon as inadequate
We will look with disdain upon those with sacrifices that are
In our own minds every sacrifice we make is adequate
We can look at the fruit in other peoples life and be jealous
When we don’t know the sacrifice it took to get there
Make sure your sacrifice is the best you can bring honestly
Examine yourself
John Bevere story about the manifest presence of God?
Do we want that level of intimacy with God?
21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
The greater the level of sacrifice the deeper the intimacy
Every promise of God is conditional, His love is not
We cannot be saved by works
But we cannot have intimacy with the father without sacrifice
Holiness is when our behavior aligns with our position in Christ
KEYS:
Salvation is conditional upon your faith and confession
IF you confess with your mouth
1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Holiness:
13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Gird up your loins
Alter Call:
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Sinners Prayer:
"God, I know that I am a sinner.
I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin.
I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior.
I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness.
I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior.
Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!"
