A few facts about women in the Bible.
obviously eve was the first woman in the Bible
around 170 women mentioned in the Bible each with unique stories and contributions to the narrative of Gods people. These women have served as leaders, prophets, mothers, faithful followers, inspiring generations with their courage and faith
Probably the most common scriptures are Proverbs 31 about the virtuous wife.
Probably the most favorited book would be Ruth.
The matriarch would be Sara
Prophetess is Deborah.
Most well known probably Mary, Jesus mom… anyone else
cleaning with kids in the house is like brushing your teeth with oreos
why did the cookie cry? because its mother was a wafer to long
what did the baby corn say to the mama corn? Where’s pop corn
its spicy is universal mom code for? I don’t want to share
behind every good man is a woman who tells him how to put his clothes on
in the words of Phil Robertson….. when God made women He made a weird creature.
In all honesty i think everyone of us in here would admit that our Wives are the glue that holds us together
There are so many ways to go with a mothers day sermon yet it always seems difficult.. especially now after years of preaching and not remembering exactly what i have preached on the past. .
But these women kept coming back to mind. And we are just a few weeks removed from Christ death burial and resurrection
So Mary and Martha and the other Mary are who i kept going back to.. I guess I admire them and see so much of their characteristics in the women that are in my life. There are several Mary’s mentioned in the Bible. We aren’t going go into detail about each one of them. We have Mary Jesus mother, Mary Magdelene, Mary of Bethany, Mary mother of James the younger, Mary of John Mark, Mary of Rome.

Mary Magdalene delivered from the seven demons
John 20:11–18 ESV
11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13 They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14 Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.
Mary and Martha story
Luke 10:38–42 ESV
38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
One was busy working one was busy learning
Mark 15:40–41 ESV
40 There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. 41 When he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him, and there were also many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.
Mark 16:1–12 ESV
When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.” And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. [[Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. 11 But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. 12 After these things he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country.
John 19:25–27 ESV
but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
Broken hearted, she had to watch her Son die although she knew something was different about him from the beginning that doesn’t change the fact that she was his mother and didn’t quiet understand at this time why this had to happen. Can you imagine, Just as Sara sat back and watched Abraham take Issac their son to be sacrificed to God. God provided a Lamb for Issac and God provided a Lamb for you and I.
That lamb would bring salvation to the world. To a world that would be dark without Him… you may say to yourself well Im just not good enough or I question these silly beliefs. I question do you have a better plan to get off this earth. Die and what? or die and live… ill chose to die and live.
