Good evening. Well I have been asked to pray for our meal for tonight and I am glad to do so, but before I do I wanted to just quickly say that while it is a good tradition and a healthy habit to stop and pray before a meal, it is much more than that.
The reason that we stop to pray is to recognize that even though the food before us was brought through the hard work and efforts of many individuals, ultimately we always stand reliant on the providence of God for every good thing in our lives. It is the combined work of the long chain of farmers, truckers, grocers, chefs, servers… and the God who works through them that draws us to pray before our meal.
And I would say that when it comes to getting our nation back on track, it is going to take a lot of hard work from a long chain of men and women who represent us in Madison and Washington all the way down to each one of us… but to successful make this good thing happen we need the mighty hand of God to move.
So with your permission, I would like to not only ask God to bless our food tonight and the hands that prepared it, but also that He would bless our efforts in working toward preserving and defending the liberty that has made this constitutional republic such a beacon of hope and a great place to live.
Let’s us pray together…
Heavenly Father,
You are such a great and powerful God and your good ways are the only path to human flourishing. We are thankful that we have been so blessed to live in a country that was founded on your principles of valuing the life you have given us, the liberty you desire for us and the pursuit of every good thing that you designed for us.
Please bless this food and the hands that prepared it and bless this nation as we seek to return to the foundational values and principles that has caused us to thrive as “One Nation Under God”.
Most of all we thank you for the gift of salvation through your son Jesus the Christ. And we pray all this in his name, in the name of Jesus… Amen.
