SLIDE 3 “THANK GOD FOR MOM”
Your here today with that heart of thanking God for your mom
Have you ever stopped to think about God notices moms
You have been set into a plan of the Lord because God noticed your mom
You are making a difference in someone else’s life today because God noticed your mom
So “Thank God for MOM”
I want to start off with someone in the Bible we have heard about before............Jacob....Esau....mom Rebekah
Esau angry to point of killing Jacob..
SLIDE 4
Genesis 27:42 NASB95
42 Now when the words of her elder son Esau were reported to Rebekah, she sent and called her younger son Jacob, and said to him, “Behold your brother Esau is consoling himself concerning you by planning to kill you.
Mom steps in here in this situation which could get really bad
SLIDE 5
Genesis 27:43–45 NASB95
43 “Now therefore, my son, obey my voice, and arise, flee to Haran, to my brother Laban! 44 “Stay with him a few days, until your brother’s fury subsides, 45 until your brother’s anger against you subsides and he forgets what you did to him. Then I will send and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?”
Notice Mom’s counsel here
Go to my brothers place!!.......
The last part of verse 45......mom knows ahead of time what could happen
Flee to Haran?.......where......hang on to that through few a more verses.....
Now where is Isaac the dad?.........probably sitting in the recliner.....probably reading Caanan Times Herald or something
And it seems to be like that.....check this out
SLIDE 6
Genesis 27:46 NASB95
46 Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am tired of living because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife from the daughters of Heth, like these, from the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?”
Then usually dad has to step it up.....you know....get involved
Look very next verse in next chapter
SLIDE 7
Genesis 28:1–2 NASB95
1 So Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and charged him, and said to him, “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. 2 “Arise, go to Paddan-aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father; and from there take to yourself a wife from the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother.
Padaam-aram.....Haran??
Normally just read over these names of places but many times God mentions for a reason
Very cool to see how God is always involved
So we really would need to back up a couple generations
SLIDE 8 “MAP OF ABRAHAM’S JOURNEY”
Tell the story up to Jacob to Haran Padaam-aram
How Jacob meets Rachel
How Jacob loved Rachel
How Jacob got both Leah and Rachel
SLIDE 9
Genesis 29:31–32 NASB95
31 Now the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, and He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. 32 Leah conceived and bore a son and named him Reuben, for she said, “Because the Lord has seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me.”
SLIDE 10
Genesis 29:33 NASB95
33 Then she conceived again and bore a son and said, “Because the Lord has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this son also.” So she named him Simeon.
Can I just tell you mom today God notices what you are going through......He cares .......He involves you in His plans for His purpose
SLIDE 11
Genesis 29:34 NASB95
34 She conceived again and bore a son and said, “Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore he was named Levi.
SLIDE 12
Genesis 29:35 NASB95
35 And she conceived again and bore a son and said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.
Wow 4 boys already......this one Judah becomes very significant
Who would think Leah seeming unloved or unoticed would be the special mom to be noticed in God’s amazing plan
Leah still to this day is not noticed enough among believers
It always seems to be Rachel everyone wants to notice or talk about
SLIDE 13
Genesis 30:1–2 NASB95
1 Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she became jealous of her sister; and she said to Jacob, “Give me children, or else I die.” 2 Then Jacob’s anger burned against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”
Here take my maid that I may have children also.......(Bilhah)
Bilhah -DAN.....NAPHTALI.....
Meantime Leah has stopped bearing......take my maid that I may have more children..... (Zilpah)
Zilpah - GAD.......ASHER
Reuben's mandrakes.....”enough that you took my husband”
Leah births ISSACHAR
Leah births ZEBULUN .......DINAH
10 boys now that Jacob has
After all this time Rachel has still been barren
SLIDE 14
Genesis 30:22–24 NASB95
22 Then God remembered Rachel, and God gave heed to her and opened her womb. 23 So she conceived and bore a son and said, “God has taken away my reproach.” 24 She named him Joseph, saying, “May the Lord give me another son.”
traveled back to Canaan - Shechem and Bethel
Rachel gives birth to BENJAMIN
