what is the differences?
what is the differences?
The popular model of the human anatomy among Bible-believing Christians is that the body and the soul (and spirit, if you believe the spirit is distinct from the soul) are completely separate entities.
See the image below. One circle represents body, another soul, and another spirit. I don’t believe this model is correct. Instead, I understand the body, soul, and spirit to be interconnected. And I think the NT bears this out
See the image below for an example. According to this model, the body (includes the brain), the soul (mind, will, emotions), and the spirit (the part of the Christian that’s been made alive to God) are all interconnected. That means that each part has an effect on the other.
You are a Spirit, who has a Soul, that lives in a body
> you true Identity that is the spirit
1 Thessalonians 5:23 (ESV)
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Body explained
Body explained
what is the body for?
> you have 5 physical senses…you can see, hear, smell.taste and touch
who has made you?
Job 33:4 (ESV)
The Spirit of God has made me,
and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Indeed you created my inward parts;
you wove me in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, because I am fearfully
and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works,
and my soul knows it well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was created secretly,
and intricately woven
in the depths of the earth.
Proverbs 20:12 (ESV)
The hearing ear and the seeing eye,
the Lord has made them both.
even though the body is close connected to the soul and spirit, we try to look closely into each individual function from one another.
often we have a “bad picture” of the body as a sinful vessel…because the NT is quoting “the flesh” as a sinful being…specially “in Adam”
1 Corinthians 6:19 (ESV)
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
1. your body is a Temple made in christ for good purpose.
2. it doesn't belong to you.
1 cor 6 13
1 Corinthians 6:13 (ESV)
“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
here you can see both ways as the “body” the church or individual…see
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
Romans 12:1–2 (ESV)
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
> the body is a Shell or Vessel but this is not you Identity. if you look in a Mirror, this is not the true reflection of you, even though the bible says that we see Jesus in his glory now...
2 Corinthians 3:16–18 (ESV)
But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Hebrews 2:9 (ESV)
But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
your spiritual “eye” is a Lamp…that shines…so it needs a body to reflect.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
your body is important for God…and he takes care of it…
Matthew 6:28–32 (ESV)
And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
god is a god of order…the bible says,
1 Corinthians 15:46 (ESV)
But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.
the body was created first in order for god to dwell in us…i show a illustration:
a glove on its own, cant do much…but when your hand goes in it…it can do its purpose…look at the words of Jesus.
Hebrews 10:5–7 (ESV)
Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said,
“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
but a body have you prepared for me;
in burnt offerings and sin offerings
you have taken no pleasure.
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’ ”
1 Corinthians 6:20 (ESV)
for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
how can we glorify god in our body with the 5 physical senses ?
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Touching
Mark 16:18 (ESV)
they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Speaking
James 3:6–12 (ESV)
And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.
Ephesians 4:29 (ESV)
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
our Eyes
Genesis 3:6 (ESV)
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.
1 John 2:16 (ESV)
For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.
Job 1:1 (ESV)
There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil.
2 Samuel 11:2 (ESV)
It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king’s house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful.
Matthew 5:28 (ESV)
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
James 1:27 (LEB)
Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
hearing what/how
what do you hear?
And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you.
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
how do you hear?
Take care then how you hear, for to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.”
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
we all Tasted this world from birth on
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Through your precepts I get understanding;
therefore I hate every false way.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
smell the aroma of christ
2 Corinthians 2:15 (ESV)
For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing,
