One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table. And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”

In the gospel according to Luke, there is a woman, the bible describes her as a sinner, who is no longer satisfied with the life she's been living. This life must have been full of disappointment, agony, fear, low self-esteem, the feeling of "I am not enough."
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
A. “I am the bread of life?” In the first place, that it pertains to a person and not to aprinciple.
B. pregnant and reproduce life without intimacy with a man who has the same kind of life
Jesus is declared "full of grace and truth" (John 1:14),
Luke 7:36–39 (ESV)
One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table. And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining (sitting) at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”
Simon the Pharisee invites Jesus to his home to eat.
This is significant because pharisees were known to question Jesus.
1. Jesus was criticized Pharisees for disobeying Mosaic Law.
2. They made the commandments of men and traditions into doctrines.
3. Luke 11:44 -calls them hypocrites
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.
2. we must be careful not to get so caught up traditions that we miss a authentic move of God.
James 1:26–27 (KJV 1900)
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
According to Romans 12 - there really hasn’t been a true transformation of the Mind.
It is possible to look the part, and still not be transformed.
True transformations takes place.
With a change of heart, mind and direction.
Recognize whats unpleasing the God
Confession
Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
3. Godly Sorrow for sin
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
Get rid of stubbornness and Rebellion - Saul is rejected in 1 Sam 15
bible says for you have rejected the word of the lord, he has also rejected you from being king.
For rebellion is as the sin of divination,
and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,
he has also rejected you from being king.”
Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. Now therefore, please pardon my sin and return with me that I may bow before the Lord.” And Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you. For you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”
In our Text says…
A woman of the city, enters, who was a sinner. Who came to see Jesus
MUST Understand that Jesus has just been criticized for eating with sinners (Luke 7:34)
You’ve got to get to jesus by any means necessary -
The woman had concluded that there was a solution to her sin problem and Jesus’ Words had given her a sense of forgiveness.
The load of guilt had been lifted off her shoulders before she entered Simon’s house. The act of washing Jesus’ feet with her tears and anointing them with perfume were acts of thanksgiving and worship.
When the woman came to Jesus, her mind was already transformed. She came with the expectation that Jesus would heal the hurt, pain, the unfulfilled life s.
her MIND was made up. in fact, SHE CAME with the best she had she had.
Life Zoe -
Whenever there is authentic worship or a press to get to jesus, the enemy will attempt to show up.
In the mind
reminder of past
physical distraction
Paul when I would do good
Evil is present in us, even when we are redeemed. Sin's desire is to hold us captive and obedient to it, acting through the sin nature within us
He shows up here in v39 -
Lets looks at v39 Luke 7:39
Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.” And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.”
“A certain moneylender had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they could not pay, he cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.” Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet.
simon the pharisee, through his actions does not honor Jesus.
Simon’s attitude toward Jesus is seen in his failure to offer the accepted social amenities: no water to wash the dust from his feet, no kiss of greeting, no oil for the head as a gesture of honor.
You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?” And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
romans 10 - whosoever calls on the name of the lord shall be saved
the forgiveness she receives is a response to love. The difficulty is removed if we translate: “The great love she has shown proves that her many sins have been forgiven”
