Psalm 139:13-16 / Matt 12:46-50
Don’t get it backwards, it’s not about us
Don’t get it backwards, it’s not about us
Matthew 7:11 “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
11 “If fathers with bad hearts know how to give good gifts to their children, then how much more will the Great Spirit, who is your loving Father from above, give good gifts to the ones who ask?
When we act in loving ways, familial ways toward others, we are imperfectly imitating His love and connection to us. We are glorifying God in our actions and with our hearts.
Jesus loved his mom
Jesus loved his mom
John 2:3–5 “When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.””
Jesus did not disrespect Mary
She clearly didn’t take it as such
He did what she wished
Exodus 20:12 / Ephesians 6:2
John 19:26–27 “26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.”
As our example, and out of genuine, loving connection, Jesus ensured his mother was taken care of before He left the Earth
Eternal Kin
Eternal Kin
There is a bond deeper than what we commonly know here
There is a bond deeper than what we commonly know here
Matthew 22:29–33 “But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 31 And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.” 33 And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.”
What is the will of the Father?
What is the will of the Father?
2 Peter 3:8–10 “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.”
So then, as thankful as I am for my mother and grandmother and surrogate mothers and aunts, who are my eternal kin?
All those who are in Christ. All those who have repented of their sin and believed the gospel. All those who are saved and know they are because God has born witness with their spirit that they are his child.
Jesus lived a life in perfect obedience to God, because we don’t.
Jesus died a substitutional death of penalty and separation, so we don’t have to.
Jesus rose from the dead on the 3rd day as vindication, and to share eternal life with all who would be His.
What do I do with this?
Believe it is true. - This is no fairy tale; Jesus is real
Believe it is enough - Jesus has done all it takes to be right with God
Believe it was for you - All that He accomplished is yours freely.
