“How do I make my friends curious enough to want to read the Bible with me?”
This is the question we need to answer. This lesson is a bit unconventional because it is simply Floyd sharing with us how he has made his own friends curious enough to read the Bible. Everything that I will share comes from conversations Floyd has actually had with his friends.
How did Floyd become so proficient in knowing what to say at exactly the right times? In his own words, “Practice! I spend hours talking to myself. I used the ideas that you are now practicing from the last chapter. I imagined conversations with someone I wanted to read the Bible. I thought up questions or comments I could use to make a friend curious. Then I asked myself what answers he might give and came up with a suitable response to his answer. I even wrote down many of these imaginary conversations in an effort to remember some of the more “intelligent” things that had occured to me.”
What if each one of us put that much effort into winning our friends to the Lord? What kind of difference do you think that would make? Do you think God would bless that kind of effort?
As we go through these conversations we should not be concerned about the exact words that he uses, but the principles he applies to win his friends to the Lord. Listen for some of these principles.
As we read through these conversations you will notice come repetition. This is for two reasons. First, there are only a limited number of excuses an unbeliever can offer for not reading the Bible. Think about that!
When you finally ask your friend if they will read the bible with you, they might give you an excuse for why they don’t want to. Are you prepared to address their excuse? Do you think if you had a good answer for any excuse they might make that you would get more chances at sharing the Scriptures with people?
Second, our goal is what? Our goal is to convince our friends to read the Bible with us, not to give them the gospel all at once with the shotgun method.
