God Watches Over David

Seeks to kill David by spear Multiple times.
Seeks to kill David by promoting him to a high position in the army and sending him to battle. (similar to his plan for Uriah)
Seeks to kill David by asking him to fight Philistines for Michal’s hand in marriage.
1 Samuel 18:21 “So Saul said, “I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” Therefore Saul said to David a second time, “You shall be my son-in-law today.”” Saul plans David’s destruction.
Michal dresses up a dummy (head of an teraphim idol ill. escape from alcatraz) and lowers David out the window.
4. Seeks to kill David by sending messengers three times. God turns them into prophets. Instead of seizing David they were seized.
5. Saul himself seeks to kill David, He is turned into a prophet. Incapacitated, naked and without power. God sent a spirit of distraction.
Each time David escapes
You can kill us, but you can’t hurt us.
Justin Martyr
Galatians 1:4 “who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,”

Jealousy is as a ____snare, pit, trap, …

Song of Solomon 8:6 “The Shulamite To Her Beloved Set me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm; For love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame.” Job 5:2 “For wrath kills a foolish man, And envy slays a simple one.” Proverbs 6:34 “For jealousy is a husband’s fury; Therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.”

Resentment Breeds Contempt

Entitlement breeds contempt that needs to be uprooted. Unless we see our true state—that we need to be set free—we forget that we need to humble ourselves before the Lamb of God. Don’t take your eyes off what God is doing in your life. You’re not here to fix others.
What then are we to do about our problems? We must learn to live with them until such time as God delivers us from them. We must pray for grace to endure them without murmuring. Problems patiently endured will work for our spiritual perfecting. They harm us only when we resist them or endure them unwillingly.
A.W. Tozer
Don’t confuse escaping with God delivering

Persecution is Normal

2 Timothy 3:12 “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” Martyrs are rewarded
Psalm 34:19 “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”
refined gold is heated and made pure.
The cross is always offensive to some and a comfort to others
If escape is leaving the will of God then better to suffer with Christ.

God Confounds Our Enemies

1 Samuel 19:20 “Then Saul sent messengers to take David. And when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as leader over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.”
Martin Niemoller came out of Hitler’s prison saying, “It took me a long time to learn that God is not the enemy of my enemies. He’s not even the enemy of His own enemies!”
You never so touch the ocean of God’s love as when you forgive and love your enemies.
Corrie ten Boom
Matthew 5:43–44 ““You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,”
Romans 5:10 “For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”
You escape from your enemies when you enter God’s love for them.

The Escape from our old Man

1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” James 1:12–15 “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” Christ on the cross delivers from the penalty of sin (Prophet).
Christ at God's right hand delivers from the power of sin (Priest).
Christ coming in the clouds delivers from the presence of sin (King).
Dwight L. Moody
David wrote Psalm 59 around this time Psalm 59 “The Assured Judgment of the Wicked To the Chief Musician. Set to “Do Not Destroy.” A Michtam of David - When Saul Sent Men, and They Watched the House in Order to Kill Him.

1 Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;

Defend me from those who rise up against me.

2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity,

And save me from bloodthirsty men.

3 For look, they lie in wait for my life;

The mighty gather against me,

Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O LORD.

4 They run and prepare themselves through no fault of mine.

Awake to help me, and behold!

5 You therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel,

Awake to punish all the nations;

Do not be merciful to any wicked transgressors.

Selah

6 At evening they return,

They growl like a dog,

And go all around the city.

7 Indeed, they belch with their mouth;

Swords are in their lips;

For they say, “Who hears?”

8 But You, O LORD, shall laugh at them;

You shall have all the nations in derision.

9 I will wait for You, O You his Strength;

For God is my defense.

10 My God of mercy shall come to meet me;

God shall let me see my desire on my enemies.

11 Do not slay them, lest my people forget;

Scatter them by Your power,

And bring them down,

O Lord our shield.

12 For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips,

Let them even be taken in their pride,

And for the cursing and lying which they speak.

13 Consume them in wrath, consume them,

That they may not be;

And let them know that God rules in Jacob

To the ends of the earth.

Selah

14 And at evening they return,

They growl like a dog,

And go all around the city.

15 They wander up and down for food,

And howl if they are not satisfied.

16 But I will sing of Your power;

Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning;

For You have been my defense

And refuge in the day of my trouble.

17 To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises;

For God is my defense,

My God of mercy.
