1“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
Jesus begins here with the last of the “I am” statements in John.
John 6:35 NIV
35Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
He is the source of our greatest need, food!
John 8:12 NIV
12When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
He is the way in which we can see!
John 10:9 NIV
9I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.
I am the way into the “pasture,” the kingdom of heaven where:
John 10:11 NIV
11“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
The one who cares for and loves His sheep, enough to lay down His life for them!
John 11:25 NIV
25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;
As we talked a little about last week, He is the source that allows us to keep living even in the face of death!
John 14:6 NIV
6Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
It is clear that we understand from these statements the importance of who Jesus is…
From Him, we have the source of life!
John 15:1 NIV
1“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
John 15:2 NIV
2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
John 15:3 NIV
3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
John 15:4 NIV
4Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
John 15:5 NIV
5“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:6–7 NIV
6If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
John 15:8 NIV
8This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
