Paul now draws upon the example of his own personal ministry as the Lord's apostle to the Gentiles to highlight the importance of unity. Remember this letter is written to the Jewish believers in Rome who are now having to adapt to the multitude of Gentile believers who have come to salvation in Christ. Paul here uses his own ministry to show what is most critical to us all.
