The Model Prayer
Our Father
Hallowed be your name
Your kingdom come
Give us daily bread
forgive us our sins as we forgive others
Lead us not into temptation
our Father- Give us- Forgive us -Lead us
this is a prayer that all Kingdom people need from God
We are in total reliance of grace
without the hand of Jesus on this planet
And He is before all things, And in Him all things hold together.
who is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power; who, having accomplished cleansing for sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
The Grace of God keeps the planets from spinning into each other
God is sovereign over death, sickness, weather,
we are in total reliance upon Him
even mundane thing as drawing straws
The lot is cast into the lap, But its every judgment is from Yahweh.
we rely upon God for food
we rely upon God for forgiveness
we also rely upon God for Keeping us from evil
we are looking at the phrase
and lead us not into temptation
the New Living Standard says Don’t let us yield to temptation
Complete Jewish Bible says. Don’t lead us to hard testing
God does not tempt us to do any sin. but He does allow us to go through a time of testing
“Lord, do not try us and test us more than is absolutely necessary, for we are so apt to fall: ‘Lead us not into temptation;’ but, if we must be tempted,” — Deliver us from evil. “If some good end is to be answered by our being thus tested, then let it be so, but, O Lord, ‘deliver us from evil,’ and especially from the evil one; suffer us not to fall into his hands in the hour of temptation.”
Job went through a time of testing
Abraham with Hagar
with Isaac
Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tested by satan
read Luke 11 1-4.
Wicked Heart
Wicked Heart
what we don’t know about ourselves is how bad we can be
“The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can know it?
In our confession of faith it says about what God does for us
Confessing the Faith: The 1689 Baptist Confession for the 21st Century V. Divine Providence
The perfectly wise, righteous, and gracious God often allows His own children for a time to experience a variety of temptations and the sinfulness of their own hearts. He does this to chastise them for their former sins or to make them aware of the hidden strength of the corruption and deceitfulness of their hearts so that they may be humbled. He also does this to lead them to a closer and more constant dependence on Him to sustain them, to make them more cautious about all future circumstances that may lead to sin, and for other just and holy purposes.15 So whatever happens to any of His elect happens by His appointment, for His glory and for their good
God allows these temptations to come to us so that we know how easy it could be to fall.
and that we need to rely upon God for grace to overcome these temptations
these temptations come from our own lusts
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully matured, it brings forth death.
Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.
not only are we fighting against our own lusts
but are also fighting
Spiritual Warfare
Spiritual Warfare
Job enemy was satan who tempted in every way to get him to curse God
Ananias and Saphira was tempted by satan to keep back some of the money of the sale of their property
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Jesus struggled with satan
our struggle is with our nature and with satan
left on our own we would not have a chance
God needs us to learn this about ourselves
this is what Paul talks about in
For even though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools,
and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the likeness of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions; for their females exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,
without the Holy Spirit reining people in they become deluded in their minds
they call bad good and good bad
so God allows us to go through these temptations
to show us how vulnerable we are
but
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
but we a lot of times will fall
and we may ultimately end up in the pig pen
but like the prodigal the Father is waiting with open arms to forgive and receive us back
and sometimes it is a long road back
with un reparable damage
and the bigger a person is the harder they fall
this prayer that Jesus taught tells us to pray
don’t lead us into a place of temptation
and if you do allow us a way of escape
and also keep the evil one away from us
Jesus prayed for us
“I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one.
Jesus told Peter to pray
And He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not keep watch for one hour?
“Keep watching and praying that you may not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
but when we endure these trials
when we are in prayer
when we are trusting in the Holy Spirit to bring us through
Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
there are great rewards in this life and beyond
