1. I Jesus am preparing you

John 14:25 ESV
25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
John 14:26 ESV
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
John 14:27–28 ESV
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
John 14:29 ESV
29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.
John 14:30 ESV
30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me,
John 14:31 ESV
31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.
Jesus is preparing the disciples for what is about to happen.
2. Jesus was leaving but sending a helper
The Holy Spirit
Have you ever run out of energy.
What do you do with a dead battery?
You throw it out, but why.
A believer who is not charged by the Holy Spirit is like a dead battery, not much use.
3. What/who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is:
A helper
A Teacher
A reminder
4. Jesus left them/us with His peace
You don’t need to look for that peace, it is already there.
Jesus peace is not like the world’s
His peace is:
Eternal
Enduring
Not artificial
Not evil/false
Remember last week I asked if you had ever felt alone. Jesus left physically to come back in the person of the Holy Spirit so you are never alone. He is always present, always helpful, always there to remind or give us the words we need to say, always teaching, and always providing peace. The disconnect is that we don’t always turn to him like we should. We try to go it alone when he is right there with us.
Are you listening?
He is that still small voice we have to listen for.
Are you a worry wort?
He’s saying, “Stop worrying and being afraid.”
5. I am leaving but you should be glad!
What’s my favorite question?
Why!
Because he is going to the father. Have you forgotten the first few verses of this chapter?
John 14:1–4 ESV
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”
Trouble is coming…
I (Jesus) am gong to show the world I love the Father.
He is also going to take the rulership of this world away from Satan at the cross.
All this stuff to say…in the end Jesus wins…but he is coming back.
I have a hope.
Do you have hope?
If you don’t know or if you just need to talk to somebody I will be here and there are others as well.
Let’s pray.
