That’s when Peter stood up and, backed by the other eleven, spoke out with bold urgency: “Fellow Jews, all of you who are visiting Jerusalem, listen carefully and get this story straight. These people aren’t drunk as some of you suspect. They haven’t had time to get drunk—it’s only nine o’clock in the morning. This is what the prophet Joel announced would happen:
“In the Last Days,” God says,
“I will pour out my Spirit
on every kind of people:
Your sons will prophesy,
also your daughters;
Your young men will see visions,
your old men dream dreams.
When the time comes,
I’ll pour out my Spirit
On those who serve me, men and women both,
and they’ll prophesy.
I’ll set wonders in the sky above
and signs on the earth below,
Blood and fire and billowing smoke,
the sun turning black and the moon blood-red,
Before the Day of the Lord arrives,
the Day tremendous and marvelous;
And whoever calls out for help
to me, God, will be saved.”

Many of you know that I plan sermons week to week. I don’t usually plan weeks in advance unless it’s a series. In my seminary class, we talked about the importance of planning out your semons. I’ve tried it in the past. You know that if the Holy Spirit says to talk about something else then I will. I want to be obedient to what God and do the things He want me to than to be doing what I want to do.
I don’t understand how preacher can only preach using the lecctionary. I’m not dissing the lecctionary, but some rely on that too much and are probably missing an oppertunity for God to truly bless the people.
For those that don’t know what the lecctionary is. “The Revised Common Lectionary” is a three-year cycle of weekly lections. (Slide)
This calendar gives scripture and a color that corresponds with the Christian year. Page 937 for list in hymnal

People from other counties were in town for one of the three pilgramage festivals. This one is called Shavuot or feast of weeks. This is celebrated 50 days after Passover. So, they were in town for that.
