Text: Exodus 32:26
Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the Lord'S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
“Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the Lord’s side, let them come unto me.”
INTRODUCTION: “Up, make us gods, which shall go before us,” (v. 1). Who said this? Not heathens!
1. The people of God—the Israelites!
2. The ones God had saved from slavery, Exod. 14:30.
3. The people God secured by cloud and fire, Exod. 13:21.
4. The nation God fed with heavenly food, Exod. 16:15.
5. The nation on its way to God’s Promised Land, Exod. 3:14.
NOTICE HOW ISRAEL ARRIVED AT THIS MORAL INSANITY:
1. They became dissatisfied with God’s methods, v. 1.
2. They didn’t renounce God, but added a calf, v. 5.
3. Soon they hailed their own ideas as best, v. 6.
4. They made themselves ridiculous to sinners, v. 25. What godly person would care to join them?
THIS SITUATION EFFECTED THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION OF THE AGES: “WHO IS ON THE LORD’S SIDE?”—THE MAJORITY?
1. Not so in the days of Noah, 1 Peter 3:20.
2. Not so at the destruction of Sodom, 2 Peter 2:6–7.
3. Not so of the army of Gideon, Judg. 7:8.
4. Not so at the defeat of Goliath, 1 Sam. 17:50.
5. Not so at the crucifixion of Jesus, Matt. 26:56.
6. “Narrow is the way, … few … find it,” Matt. 7:1–4.
7. God deals in “quality” not in “quantity.”
“WHO IS ON THE LORD’S SIDE?” GOD’S WORD ANSWERS: ALL—
1. Who turn themselves over to God, Rom. 12:1–2.
2. Who recognize sin as a personal tragedy, Rom. 6:23.
3. Who accept God’s provision for salvation, Heb. 9:6.
4. Who love the church as Christ’s Body, Eph. 5:30.
5. Who love the brethren whom they see, 1 John 4:20.
6. Who prefer Christ to all else, John 21:15.
7. Who keep His commandments, John 14:21.
