At the end of the day, what difference does this story make?
The God of creation is a better version than any other God
We come to understand that the Scriptures are not a series of random ficticious stories. They tell us of a greater story in which the God of the universe is in control, where he brings chaos into order,
It gives us confidence that God is still in control in the middle of chaos, that God still calls the chaos into order.
The genesis story tells me that the God of the Bible is real and he will always be better than any human idea of God. When God created humanity in his image, God said: “This is very good.” Then he gives them direction, puropse, blesses them and invites them to enjoy and take care of his creation. When humanity creates a god in its image, there is revelrgy, sin, brokenness and hunanity’s image of God falls in disarray.
Humanity was made in the image of God. God shares his resources with us so we can serve him well. God asks us to care for the soil, the water, and most especially we care for other human beings. Wars, violence, and depravity of freedom are punished by God.
In contrast, the idea of the Darwinian evolution tells us that this world exisits by chance. There’s no reason for you or I to exist. Then why should we care about others? Why should we care that other people are live or have a better chance for a good future. Whether the liberal culture likes to accept it or not, the God of the Bible has benefited the Western civilization with the idea of human dignity. There’s no reason for human dignity if it’s not because of the Judeo-Christian teaching of the image of God.
The God you worship will dictate the goals you pursuit, the way you find meaning and purpose, the way you approach conflict, the way you use your money, the way you raise your children, even the hobbies and prefreences you have. EXPLAIN each one of these examples.
