“Although the individual bishops do not enjoy the prerogative of infallibility, they can nevertheless proclaim Christ’s doctrine infallibly. This is so, even when they are dispersed around the world, provided that while maintaining the bond of unity among themselves and with Peter’s successor, and while teaching authentically on a matter of faith or morals, they concur in a single viewpoint as the one which must be held conclusively. This authority is even more clearly verified when, gathered together in an ecumenical council, they are teachers and judges of faith and morals for the universal Church. Their definitions must then be adhered to with the submission of faith” (Lumen Gentium 25).
"And we, too, being called by His will in Christ Jesus, are not justified by ourselves, nor by our own wisdom, or understanding, or godliness, or works which we have wrought in holiness of heart; but by that faith through which, from the beginning, Almighty God has justified all men; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." Letter to the Corinthians (Clement) Ch. 32 (90’s AD)
“… it is estimated by careful and credible historians that more the 50 Million of the human family have been slaughtered for the crime of heresy by popish persecutors” -“The History of Romanism” by John Dowling p. 541 1845AD
“Canon iii. If any one shall say, that the sacrifice of the mass is only a sacrifice of praise and of thanksgiving; or, that it is a bare commemoration of the sacrifice offered on the cross, but not a propitiatory sacrifice; or, that it avails him only who receiveth; and that it ought not to be offered for the living and the dead for sins, punishments, satisfactions, and other necessities; let him be anathema.” The Canons and Decrees of the Council of Trent, 22nd Session Chapter 9

Things I Responded to Catholics
-Unfortunately your logic expressed regarding differences of interpretation is inconsistent with the reality of the rejection of Catholic doctrines. You are setting up a straw man. In no way do biblical evangelical Christians believe we are left to our own individual interpretation. There are plenty of fundamental core doctrines that are non-negotiable. And we can join each other in calling out false teachers/movements. To suggest when there are differences within the Catholic leaders as new popes and bishops teach new/different understanding. For me to make that assertion is equivalent to "the author of confusion". Would be a misrepresentation of what Catholics actually believe. Your second argument is a well-packaged ad homenam attack. Conflating protesting Catholic doctrine with not understanding scripture. You agree with a specific understanding of what Jesus meant with "the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church." If you believe that speaks to the authority of the Catholic Church, then okay. But butchering the actual belief of those who stand against the Catholic doctrine. As the Protestant church represents "heresies, conflicting doctrines and practices, and thousands of denominations". Is only a disingenuous attack to support your own presuppositions. I have an honest question for you. If you actually care about people (Protestants) and believe that those who oppose Catholic doctrine are "anathema". Would not Christ-like love compel you to formulate a genuine and loving argument?
