John 10:1-6 The set-up: Continuation from John 9.
John 10:7-10 - The Door
The Good Shepherd Stays in Position between the sheep and the danger
Thieves & Robbers
anyone who doesn’t come through Christ
all who came before Christ
sheep don’t listen to them
they force the sheep
sheep run away from strangers
John 10:11-13 The Good Shepherd Stands His ground doesn’t run away
not the hired hand
Wolf: snatches and scatters the sheep
Hired Hand:
leaves the sheep
saves himself
cares nothing for the sheep
just there for a meal
John 10:14-16 The Good Shepherd Sacrifices His life.
He doesn’t run away, but runs toward the danger.
34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep sheep for his father. And when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb from the flock,
35 I went after him and struck him and delivered it out of his mouth. And if he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and struck him and killed him.
36 Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.”
2 In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. And the Lord said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel.’ ”
16 “Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation
17 who shall go out before them and come in before them, who shall lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be as sheep that have no shepherd.”
We see here there are 3 types of leaders:
Thieves and Robbers: Intent to Cause Harm
Hired Hands: Content to serve self
Good Shepherd: Attentive to the sheep
The wolf is a given
The enemy
The sheep are a given! - Followership is Biblical
but Who am I following?
Who am I running from?
If I have trouble hearing His voice it’s time to spend time following, and obeying!
Sheep have it made when they stay with the Shepherd!
Sheep have it made when they stay with the Shepherd!
16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.
Unity of the flock is found with the shepherd!
Unity of the flock is found with the shepherd!
