Be Greedy
Be Greedy
Before you write me off as a Heretic I will explain the title of this sermon. A few weeks ago I had a discussion with the Wednesday night group about seed planting and the reality of seeds is that you only grow what you plant. You plant a mediocre garden you will grow a mediocre garden. You plant an extravagant garden you will harvest and extravagant garden. You will reap what you plant. The other idea is the seed and the sower parable. Yes seed landed on all types of soil, but the farmer’s job was to make sure his seed pouch was empty. My biggest fear is that when I get to Heaven I find out there are more seeds in my pouch. I want an empty pouch. I want to spend every seed God has given me and I want it extravagantly. I want a big harvest because God wants a big harvest.
3 Long ago I told you what was going to happen. Then suddenly I took action, and all my predictions came true.
I love this version of this verse. Usually I use the ESV, but they both say the same thing differently.
God was talking to Israel and about their slavery. When the Israelites went into the promised land there is an entire book on what would happen if they followed God and what would happen if they walked away. Israel walked away and then became astonished that God did what he said he would do, but this is also said about us and I love the implications here.
We’ve talked about the prophetic. We’ve talked about God talking to us in prayer. God still has conversations today amen. God spoke things in your life, in your family, and in the church. He said these things. But here’s the issue. God says these things, but we need to take action. We can’t sit here and wait for God to do things. We have to dom our part so that all prophesies come to pass.
If I am planting a grandiose garden I have to take grandiose actions.
All of the God’s prophesies come to fruition if we are faithful to work.
God told us this church will grow past all past ceilings. We will reach higher numbers, but that means I have to put process in. I have to get the classes started. Prepare for the baptisms, get a serve team up and running. Get follow up in place. And these are all things we are either doing or have done.
I believe we will be worshipping in a new building. There have been prophesies said about it. Some believe I am planting a grandiose seed when I speak of a thousand person congregation, but God said it. I believe it so I have been interviewing builders and companies. Looking for architects. Pastor Sean it’s too big, but God sent 5 people to tell me it’s not big enough.
We must be willing to be greedy enough to cry our Elisha’s cry in
2 Kings 2:9 (ESV)
9 …And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.”
I am by nature a greedy person. I want a relationship with God. I don’t want to be an aqaintance. I don’t want a casual frienship. I don’t want to be friends with benefits. I want o the best friend he ever had.
I am called to be a Pastor and to build the ecclesia. I don’t want a 100 person church. Why? Because there is more than 100 people in the world. I don’t want the biggest church, but I the most people to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and we need a place to teach them. Why do I think so big. Because I serve a big God that can. Elisha sais I don’t want what you have I want double.
7 In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask what I shall give you.”
Solomon doesn’t ask for money. Because it’s fading. He doesn’t ask for women. He’s already handsome. He doesn’t ask for a bigger army.
10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?”
God answers that because he asked for none the wordly stuff he would give Solomon wisdom and riches.
Why? This is the smartest thing you could ever ask for. I don’t need a ton of money to make a ton of money. I just need the wisdom on how to properly use and multiply the money I have and I could produce riches. I don’t have to be the most talented Pastor in the world, but give me wisdom how to run and church, deal with people, counsel, minister, and to utilize God’s supernatural gifts and I build you a mega church.
I don’t need a fortune 500 company. give me a grass roots company and wisdom to run it and I’ll make a fortune 500 company.
Solomon knew what he was asking for. You need to know what you are praying for and then pray for an insane amount of it. I’ve prayed this prayer. Lord give me the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Samson, the shadow of Peter, the faith of Paul.
13 Now may God, the inspiration and fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with his super-abundance until you radiate with hope!
Super- abundance - Persavo
Perisseuo- be in excess; over and above in abundance
You have the ability to superabound, but what we sow we reap. You cannot reap more than you sow. You have to sow in excess ro reap in excess.
You can’t concern yourself with the cost of a seed when you’re looking for an abundant harvest.
We have to work for it.
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
10 then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
This isn’t a tithing sermons, but the reality is God iosn’t concerned with the cost of the seed he is worried about the willing heart and someone who will work.
Work for it
12 The Lord will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.
God will only bless what your hands worked for. We want God to bless our prayers.
He hears our prayers, he blesses our work!
Earlier we talked about the blessings and curses that God laid before Israel. This is in the blessing chapter.
8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
Who will put forth the effort that makes my mountain move, my heavens open. Who can I send the rain on. Who will not waste the harvest I will send them. God doesn’t want the wheat to rott in field. He wants the bounty in the store house. He wants to give to somoene who is working and multiplying.
