The word is of uncertain derivation, but may come from a word meaning ‘a place from which none arises,’ a euphemism for Sheol…… Eventually, ‘Belial’ became a name of the embodiment of all wickedness and worthlessness, Satan himself (2 Cor. 6:15).”
