Scripture
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Pentecost Sunday – 50 days since the resurrection. Told by Jesus to go to the upper room and wait.
Today is Pentecost the birthday of the church
It is The birth of something special
It is the birth of the Holy Spirit It came into being on Pentecost and was given birth by the Holy Spirit, the One who intercedes on our behalf with utterances unknown to us.
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
We. May ask what is the Church?
"I Am the Church, You Are the Church, We Are the Church Together!"
The church is the people it is the people of faith
The Church is the gathered ones the ekklesia,
They were gathered in one place and in one accord
While they were gathered a sound was heard likened to a rushing wind
The gathered encountered tongue like fire and the gathered were all filled with the Holy Spirit
The church is the flame of Gods Holy Spirit and the wind
The Holy Spirit came in like a mighty rushing wind and there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as fire
Wind actually refers to breath "God breathed" and Adam became " a living soul"
God breaths and we become Fire is what God is. God is called a "consuming fire" referring to a completely filling of all power my God abled Moses, God abled
The Church is the heavenly language given from above
3 "tongues" that are like fire sweep over all the disciples, but one flame rests "on each of them"
The Holy Spirit's presence is felt personally as well as communally among all the gathered disciples
The church is the witness
Peter, the most cowardly on the night of Jesus' arrest, now becomes the most Bolden
Peter denies the charges of drunkenness and states the true meaning This is what was Prophesized by Joel 15These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! 16No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: In the last day God will pour out a spirit, people will preach, the church will have visions, the church will dream dreams, the church will show wonders, and the church witness conversions 21And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'
The church is ordinary people. Even more remarkable is that they were unremarkable.
They were ordinary people who actually extraordinary things
They were normal folk who were able to the abnormal They were people like us
The church is united
They were united they all understood the language the Holy Spirit spoke
They were United in their message What Peter has to say in our text and the verses following makes it clear. The message is Jesus. Jesus was alive. Then he was dead. He is alive again. And everyone who calls on Jesus will also be alive -- eternally alive! This was the core message
They were United in their mission. "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:18-20)
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
The Church is the gathered, The flame and wind of God, the Heavenly Language, the Witness, the church is the Ordinary, and the Church is United. “Lets Go Birth Church ”

Sight and Sound
Sound of a mighty wind & tongue of Fire
Fire has always been an important part of the Bible
The Burning Bush with Moses (God’s anointing) Exodus 3
In Exodus 3 we see that God showed Himself to Moses in the “burning bush”. This got Moses attention because it was burning but not consumed.
There is a reverence to the first. There is something and someone greater than ourselves. God told Moses to take his shoes off. He is now on Holy Ground. Why? Because God had now entered this place. Before it was an ordinary place.
When God (Lord) anoints something it is for His purpose. It changes what it is.
Three Hebrew Children thrown into the Fire - (God will be with us) Daniel 3
Here King Nebuchadnezzar had set up a golden image. At the sound of the music everyone was to bow down. Yet if you were there and heard the trumpet you would see the three Hebrews did not bow but instead they were standing.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
The Fire of the Holy Spirit reminds us that we are never alone. No matter what we are going through we can lean on the comfort and power of the Holy Spirit.
God will take the fire and turn it into something miraculous.
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; Neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
God Answers by Fire - (God will answer by Fire) Elijah on Mount Carmel
1 Kings 18 shows us another instance where we see fire and God’s working.
Here Elijah is faced with a battle against 4450 prophets Baal. They built and altar. The prophets of Baal went first and dances around the altar. The shouted, sand, and cut themselves to no avail. When it was Elijah’s turn he doused the altar with water. This included filling up the ditches. It was going beyond what was necessary. Elijah prayed a 63 word prayer and God sent fire from heaven and burnt the sacrifice. Ditches dried up.
God will answer by fire. We don’t have to be afraid. Or try to answer for ourselves.
And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
Paul on the Island of Malita (fire will cause the devil to flee)
When the fire burns bright the serpent will come.
You want to know the best way to cleanse your life, build a fire. When you build a fire the enemy has to flee.
When you start burning the fire of the Hold Spirit then the devil will come out and flee.
It is time to Stir up the Gift of the Holy Spirit and let the fire burn in our lives.
Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
