Psalm 110:title–7 (ESV) A Psalm of David. 1The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.” 2The LORD sends forth from Zion your mighty 3 scepter. Rule in the midst of your enemies! Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours. Psalm 110:title–7 (ESV) 4The LORD has sworn and will not change his fi mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of 5 Melchizedek.” The LORD is at your right hand; he 6 will shatter kings on the day of his wrath. He will execute judgment among the nations, lling them with corpses; he will shatter chiefs over the wide 7 earth. He will drink from the brook by the way; therefore he will lift up his head. Hebrews 5:1 (ESV) fi For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacri ces for sins. Hebrews 5:2–3 (ESV) fi He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with 3 weakness. Because of this he is obligated to offer sacri ce for his own sins just as he does for those of the people Hebrews 4:14–15 (ESV) Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, 15 let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 2:14a (ESV) fl Since therefore the children share in esh and blood, he himself [Jesus] likewise partook of the same things . . . Isaiah 53:3b (ESV) a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; (ESV marginal reading) a man of pains and knowing sickness (NET) one who experienced pain and was acquainted with illness; CSB) a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. (NIV) a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Isaiah 53:2b-c (ESV) He had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. Isaiah 53:3 (ESV) He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Hebrews 2:17–18 (ESV) Therefore he [Jesus] had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to 18 make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Hebrews 5:1 (ESV) fi For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacri ces for sins. Hebrews 5:4 (ESV) And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. Hebrews 5:5-6 (ESV) So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, “You are my Son, 6 today I have begotten you”; as he says also in another place, “You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 5:9–10 (ESV) And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey 10 him, being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 5:7–8 (ESV) fl In the days of his esh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he 8 was heard because of his reverence. Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. Hebrews 6:19–20 (ESV) We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner 20 place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 7:15–17 (ESV) This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, 16who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but 17 by the power of an indestructible life. For it is witnessed of him, “You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 7:23–25 (ESV) fi The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in 24 of ce, but he holds his priesthood permanently, 25 because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:26–28 (ESV) fi fi fi For it was indeed tting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from 27 sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacri ces daily, rst for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he 28 did this once for all when he offered up himself. For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever. Psalm 110:4 (ESV) The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 10:11–14 (ESV) fi fi fi And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacri ces, which can 12 never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacri ce for sins, he sat 13 down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for 14 his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sancti ed. Hebrews 10:26–27, 30-31 (ESV) fi fi For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains 27 a sacri ce for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of re that will consume the 30 adversaries. . . . For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The 31 Lord will judge his people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Psalm 110:4–7 (ESV) fi The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of 5 Melchizedek.” The LORD is at your right hand; he 6 will shatter kings on the day of his wrath. He will execute judgment among the nations, lling them with corpses; he will shatter chiefs over the wide 7 earth. He will drink from the brook by the way; therefore he will lift up his head. Revelation 19:11 (ESV) Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True [Christ], and in righteousness he judges and makes war. Revelation 19:15 (ESV) From his [Christ’s] mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty fl fl fl Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that y directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great 18 supper of God, to eat the esh of kings, the esh of captains, the esh of mighty men, the esh of horses and their riders, and the esh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.” fl fl fl Revelation 19:17–18 (ESV) Hebrews 12:25 (ESV) See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven.
