Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.
we know that who we are in the daytime
yet come partytime we could be someone else
do we put on our Sunday best but leave it in the cupboard all week?
do we speak and do God at church yet be of the world otherwise?
we have a new spirit and the Holy Spirit as our teacher and guide
check out the things of the world
carousing or partying
drunkenness - losing self control and trying to cover our shortcomings by drink or drugs - it is all the same condition
the world calls it a disease that we can treat it with medicine or sweet talk
in fact it is the state of the heart and jesus is the only heart specialist in this world
sexual immorality - one man and one woman is th god design
the worlsd says you can be unfaithful, you can do whatever you like, you can sin against other people by stealing their virtue
debauchery - actions that are actually debased and evil, taking delight in all that is wrong
dissension - that inner rage that comes out is gossip and slander and vile comments
jealousy - feelings of entitlement because someone has a better partner, or a better body, or more money or possessions
God says be content with what he has given you
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
The Real Christian
clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ
display love, joy, peace
be willing to forgive
be willing to share the Kingdom of God
getting dressed is a considered action
we decide what we wear, how much makeup yet
we take great effort to look good
we ignore ignore our Christian walk
Desires of the Flesh - Men
honestly this is really tough
as a man we are assaulted with sexualised images
we are encouraged to be a “man”
the world strips the values of manhood from us
money and power are held up as the pinnacle of our success
we have to put on a veneer of what the world thinks is right
being a Christian is not one of them
Desires of the Flesh - Women
the world tells you that you must conform to the fashion and values of the world
it tells you that you can have flings and affairs and be sexualised
it tells you that being a great faithful wife is a lie and not a true picture of who you are
you are told not to accept who you are that your body image is wrong
the Bible tells us that you are a noble woman, a woman of great wealth
Desires of the Flesh - Age
teenagers are told they can rebelled
the bible tells us that children are to obey their parents
oldies are useless being well past their use by dates
the bible tells us that they are to instruct the young and pray for their family
parents are powerless with the state and others diminishing their authority and power
the Kingdom tells us that parents are to bring up their children in the ways of the Lord
Our Response
let us stand for the things of God
let us clothe ourselves with Jesus
let us be lights in a dark dark world
we have been redeemed, we have been set free
let us discover the depth of that true freedom in our Lord Jesus
let us work together in love and good deeds
let us make Liberty a place where everyone feels safe and precious in Jesus
