Honey Sarah Virginia Maddox was born Jan 2, 1934. She was one of seven children born to Walter and Mayme White. Honey's life revolved around her faith in Jesus and her unwavering love for her family. Her childhood was filled with laughter, running the trails and waters of Leesburg, FL with her best friend and sister, Bettie.
In 1952, she and Willoughby “Bill” Stephen Maddox said their “I dos” after a whirlwind three day engagement. He swept her off of her feet and kept her floating in a sea of unending joy— always putting her needs above his own, and giving her a life beyond what she could have hoped for.
This joy brought them three wonderful and thoughtful children, Kim (Ronnie), Stephen (Cindy), and Kendall (John), who would care for them all the days of their lives.
Her six grandchildren, Judson Willoughby, Ron (Marie), Joshua Stephen, Matt (Devyn), Kellie (Keith), and Dorie Virginia (Jeret), and her fourteen great grandchildren, Maddox, Enslie, Alden, Elliott, Wren, Samuel, River, Essie, Eliza, Naomi, Kendall Kate, Ruthie Honey, Mac and Aline will forever remember the love and the fun of days spent with Honey.
Honey provided a home to all who came calling, and all those she loved hold a permanent place in her heart. Her church family was just that— Family— and she devoted her time and love to it, especially the babies she rocked in the nursery. Children were Honey’s priority, and the foster children who came through their home made their family complete, and formed memories that are told and retold fondly at every gathering.
She was a natural leader, but would acquiesce to fit the needs of those she loved. Shy but sassy, she was never afraid to speak her mind. Honey had a green thumb and knew the name of and care required for every plant from the tip of Florida to the middle of Tennessee.
She was special to so many people. She was everyone’s Honey. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy of love will live on forever. Above all else, she loved her husband. In her words, “You’re so much more than I ever dreamt would belong to me. I love you in so many thousands of ways. Darling, you’re my life. I want to love you forever. My love and life are yours through eternity.”
