vs 52

Jesus’ kingdom doesn't spread by force
John 18:36.
but why?
Is. 2:1-4. Unlike Israel who used the sword of conquest to take the land and kick out those who don’t worship Yahweh, The church will use the gospel of peace to transform the world and bring in those who don’t worship Yahweh.

vs 53-54

rhetorical question
John 8:29.
twelve legions
1 legion = 4-6000 soldiers. so this would be around 48,000 - 72,000.
How should the scriptures be fulfilled?
Gen. 3:15,Ex. 12:12-13, Is. 53:5, etc.

The Mishnah Sanhedrin

(7) In property cases they try the case by day and complete it by night. In capital cases, they try the case by day and complete it [by] day.

K (8) In property cases they come to a final decision on the same day [as the trial itself], whether it is for acquittal or conviction. In capital cases they come to a final decision for acquittal on the same day, but on the following day for conviction.

L (Therefore they do not judge [capital cases] either on the eve of the Sabbath or on the eve of a festival

Matthew 15:3, 8-9.
The principle: They were willing to break their own traditions, that they saw as equal with the Word of God.

Courtyard of the high priest
This was The high priestly palace, not the temple.
the sanhedrin usually gathered in the temple (Hall of Hewn Stones)

Council
συνέδριον - meeting, sanhedrin
They were looking for any false testimony worthy of the death sentence
vs 60
two came forward, required by the Law (Deut. 17:6, 19:15)
curious how they sought any witnesses. seeking to justify what they were doing under God.

Vs 61

The accusation: He will destroy the temple
the truth: John 2:19.
they probably fabricated it as a response to Matthew 12:6, 21:12-13.
this accusation will be used again to condemn Stephen, Acts 6:13-14.

Vs 62-63

vs 63
Jesus was silent
fulfilling Is. 53:7. prefigured in Isaac, Genesis
I adjure you
ἐξορκίζω - Put under oath, solemnly command

Talmud Reading
Tell us if you are the Christ, The Son of God
He gets to the heart, this is what he wanted to hear. If Jesus says yes, they can accuse Him before Rome and have him executed.
Son of God, further blasphemy case (Remember, Ps. 2:7, 12, Prov. 30:4.)

Vs 64

You have said so
Also, Mark 14:62.

Meaning, he wont be sitting on a throne here on earth right now. he will be seated by the father, ruling from heaven
he is referring to Psalm 110:1.
coming on the clouds of heaven
He comes on the clouds, not with a physical kingdom and physical army to take over the Romans. He will conquers hearts with the word of God, not peoples with the sword.
