Text: John 2:20
Intro: We know that when Jesus died, He spent three days and three nights in the ground fulfilling the Scriptures. There are so many references to list them all concerning God’s plan and three days. But here are a few…
Joseph’s interpretation of the butler and bakers dreams. (Gen. 40)
Butler: Restored to his place, after the former manner… (13)
Baker: Hung on a tree. (19)
Joseph imprisoned his brother three days as spies… He says, (15) “Hereby ye shall be proved:” (17) And he put them all together into ward three days.” (18) “And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God:”
And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us. And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.
After the Red sea they journeyed three days with no water. (Ex. 15:22) (1 Corinthians 10:1-4)
Joshua commanded the people to prepare for within three days, ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it. (Josh. 1:11)
Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights.... Nineveh was three days journey…
For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Paul went three days without sight and didn’t eat nor drink… (Acts 9)
The fulfillment of three days really is remarkable. Considering the days of creation.
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
The last day, being without evening… The day of rest, the Sabbath's rest, signifying that millennial reign of Christ! What does it take to get there? 6 thousand years… Three thousand (three days) brought us to His death on the cross. Three thousand (three days) brings us to His second coming!
It really is remarkable!
Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Caesarea to Jerusalem.
Caesarea is @ 82 ft - Jerusalem 2474 ft
Closing: Jesus’ three days and three nights fulfilled the Scriptures… His death bearing our sin, and after three days, His life, giving us life!
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
