Rooted in Christ - Colossians 2:6-7.
Rooted in Christ - Colossians 2:6-7.
This morning I want to talk to you about being rooted in Christ.
We will be looking in Colossians 2, if you have your Bible and would like to turn there.
There are many things that we can be rooted in, from our faith in Jesus Christ, to our heritage, to our careers and many other things.
If you are rooted in Pharaoh’s prison, you will rise up to become the prime minister of Egypt, like Joseph.
If you are rooted in the fiery furnace, you will rise up and testify before the king, like Shadrack, Meshack, and Abindigo.
If you are rooted in a lions den, you will rise up to become second-in-command of the Persian empire, like Daniel.
If you are rooted in the desert, you will bloom and proclaim that God is with us, like John the Baptist.
The Bible tells us that when we are rooted and established in the Word of God, we will bloom where we are planted.
We see this in our text this morning of Colossians 2:6-7
Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

Paul is writing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to the believers at Colossians
To live a Godly life, we are told a few things that will help us do that.
I. Walk
I. Walk
First we see that we are to walk.
Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
Paul tells the believers you have received Christ Jesus the Lord.
This tells us that Paul was speaking specifically to the believers, the Christians of Colossus.
He tells these believers that they need to walk in Christ Jesus the Lord.
Walk is the familiar New Testament term denoting the believer’s daily conduct.
Paul tells the Romans in 12:1-2 to not be conformed to this world, but to be transformed.
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
We are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind.
We renew our minds by walking after Jesus, by studying His Word.
Paul tells the believers at Philippi to have the mind of Christ.
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
The KJV says, Let this mind be in you.
We do this again by studying God’s Word.
II. Firmly Rooted.
II. Firmly Rooted.
We see next that we are to be firmly rooted.
Colossians 2:7 (NASB95)
having been firmly rooted
The Christian life is to continue as it began - with faith in the gospel message.
A plant that is not firmly planted, can be easily uprooted with wind.
We are to be firmly rooted so that we are no moved, waving in our faith.
There are Around 10,000 distinct religions in the world.
With that most of them get their beliefs from the Bible and they just take and twist the Word of God to fit their ways.
Therefore, if we are not rooted in our faith, in the Word of God, then we could be easily led astray.
As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;
If we are rooted in the Word of God, then we will not be tossed or led astray by false religions.
The way we root into the Word of God is by studying and attending Church services.
Like mighty trees fed by strong roots, we are to remain rooted in Christ, both in knowledge and in practice.
That way, growth will occur and protection from false teachers will be provided.
III. Built Up
III. Built Up
The third thing we are told to do is be built up.
Colossians 2:7 (NASB95)
having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him
We are to be built up in Him, that is Christ Jesus our Lord.
We are built up when we attend church services, and Bible studies with other believers.
We are all given spiritual gifts, and we are to use those gifts to build each other up.
Our spiritual gifts are not for our own benefit but for the benefit of other believers.
For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function,
so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;
if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching;
or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
We are to help each other grow spiritually, by using our spiritual gifts.
IV. Established in Faith
IV. Established in Faith
The fourth thing we see is to be established in our faith.
having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.
To be established in our faith, is to grow or flourish successfully.
We are to be constantly growing in our faith and walk with Jesus Christ.
We do this by, walking after Christ, being firmly rooted in the Word of God, and being built up by other believers.
It is important that we know what we believe, and stand strong in those believes.
