12 Tribes of Israel - Judah, Benjamin, Levi, Issachar, Zebulun, Manasseh, Ephraim, Reuben, Simeon, Dan, Nephtali, Gad, Asher
what tribe Moses, Aaron from
What tribe David from
What tribe Jesus from
Where did the name of Israel come from?
Other names for Abraham’s descendants - Jews, Hebrews, children of Israel, Israelites, Israel . . . new one (Judah)
New Questions
How many plagues?
talk about many false gods of Egypt, “blow” to each one

Review - Exodus 5

Moses goes to Pharoah and things get worse . . . bricks without straw
People mad at Moses, Moses mad at God

Review - Exodus 6

Moses just finished complaining to God at the end of chapter 5 and at the beginning of Chapter 6, God says “watch me work”
God encourages Moses
God tells Moses to encourage the people
Moses tries, but the people did not want to hear from Moses
God tells Moses to now go back to Pharaoh
Moses said “the people won’t listen, I know the Pharoah won’t listen”
God says do it anyway
A Genealogy is given that focuses on Moses and Aaron (Levi)
Summary of events in chapter 6 - God tells Moses to go, and Moses does not want to

Review of Exodus 7, (verses 1-7)

God ignores Moses’s complaints, instead God reviews what to do and what will happen
I will harden Pharaoh’s heart
give me a chance to show out
by the end of this the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord
Moses was 80 and Aaron 83 (old and complaining, but obeyed)
Exodus 7:8–9 NLT
8 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 9 “Pharaoh will demand, ‘Show me a miracle.’ When he does this, say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down in front of Pharaoh, and it will become a serpent.’ ”
Question: How did Pharaoh react?
called on his sorcerers and magicians to do the same, but the staff of Moses swallowed up the others
Pharaoh was not moved
Interesting note (Here is where our translations training kicks in):a different Hebrew word for “serpent” is used than the one used before (mountain, in front of elders of Israel)
this word tanin means serpent, dragon , sea-monster
crocodile?
dragon?
Exodus 7:10 YLT
10 And Moses goeth in—Aaron also—unto Pharaoh, and they do so as Jehovah hath commanded; and Aaron casteth his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it becometh a monster.
Why not use literal all the time?
Literal can be confusing: Ex. And Moses goeth in . . . Aaron Also . . . unto Pharaoh (Pause)
just say - So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh

Question: What was the 1st plague?

water into blood: fish die, river will stink, can’t drink water from Nile, people will have to get water from wells.
Pharaoh’s magicians could do the same
Pharaoh was not moved . . . be 7 days before Moses goes back

Lesson 1 - Our God is Greater

satan has been given some power, but it is weak compared to God - serpent
satan’s power is showy but it doesn’t help
magicians couldn’t take blood away, only cause more problems.
beware of charlatans with no power
beware of charlatans with little power (did a whole sermon on false teachers)
if you think someone is attacking you spiritually, then pray for protection, and go on in faith
your biggest fear should be destroying yourself!!!
Balaam - couldn’t curse them, but he tricked them into false God worship
Revelation 2:14 NASB95
14 ‘But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who kept teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit acts of immorality.
many of them died in a plague, Balaam killed in battel

Lesson 2 - Don’t be a Pharaoh

God hardened Pharaoh’s heart. Is that fair?
#1 - This was a Punishment?
he was the leader of a government hat has enslaved people
he was the leader of a government that kills baby boys
punishment not just on him but Egypt for what they did
#2 - Example of a reprobate (depraved) mind?
Romans 1:28 NLT
28 Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.
won’t acknowledge God, keep rejecting God, . . . they kick God out and God leaves (abandons them)
but when God leaves he takes more than just his rules
God’s presence is the only thing that keeps this world halfway sane
and now they can’t discern right from wrong
foolish thinking, depravity
Pharaoh can’t discern that this is not working out for our good
we see people with blank eyes
we see people who make arguments that make no sense, and they don’t flinch even if you destroy their argument
“I can’t tell the difference between a man or a woman”
“I am a we”
keep gangbanging - death, prison, death of friends means nothing
#3 - Earth and people belong to him, God can do what he wants to do . . . We trust that God is just in all his dealings
Again, don’t you be a Pharaoh in some part of your life
listen to God and do what he says
do what his BIble says
