Joshua 1:5…God Is With You

Psalm 16:8 “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”

Introduction...

As I was blessed to walk across the stage last Friday, (5-17-2024), my mind started thinking about my loved ones that were already gone to be with the Lord..
Oh, I wish they could have been here to witness this in person with me...
But i know on this side everyone can not go all the way with you.
(Address graduate)....as you begin this next chapter in your life. You will soon realize, understand that everyone on this side can’t always be with you....
and do not be fearful or hesistate just because your boys aren’t here.
Please now that God is with you....
Our God is Omnipresent.....HE is everywhere...
Since He created the Heavens and the Earth....He has been everywhere....
And what I like about our lesson today is that God made a promise to Joshua
And that promise is still good today...
Romans 8:38–39 “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
TALK, PREACH......
Before we dive into the text God gives Joshua several promises....
1, the promise of a personal presence,,,
2, the promise of the past
3, lastly a perpetual promise..
REPEAT...
What a promise God has given us! The promise of His unbroken presence, that He will never leave us nor forsake us. No matter what enemy, trial or temptation may face us, no matter what trouble, difficulty or problems, no matter the size, the strength, or the destructive potential of the obstacle, God will be with us.
Our omnipresent Father, with His unbroken presence will never leave nor forsake us.....UNBROKEN PRESENCE....TALK, PREACH.....
heres some more scripture to back me up...
Matthew 28:20 “teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
Exodus 33:14 “And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.””
Genesis 28:15 “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.””
Let’s walk....
Joshua 1:5 “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.”

HISTORY OF JOSHUA.

Joshua....
Joshua is considered one of the Bible’s greatest military leaders for leading the seven-year conquest of the Promised Land, and is often held up as a model for leadership and a source of practical application on how to be an effective leader.
The first time we see Joshua is in Exodus 17 in the battle against the Amalekites.
Joshua was one of the twelve spies of Israel sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan....PREACH, TALK.....
Joshua was Moses’ successor who led the Israelites into the Promised Land
So Joshua had been thru so much with Moses. He loved and trusted Moses and was probably comfortable with Moses.
But because of his disobedience Moses was not allowed to go into the promised land.
So God set Joshua aside and appointed him over the Israelites to take them across....
Holman Concise Bible Commentary Joshua’s Commission (1:1–18)

God instructed Joshua to be obedient to the law of Moses and to be courageous so that he might succeed.

Joshua knew what all Moses had went thru with the people and now here he is their leader....i bet he missed Moses....
but like i said earlier on this side everyone cant go all of the way with you...

Points/Body

So in this first chapter of Joshua God is encouraging Joshua and then gives him the promise....
1, the promise of a personal presence,,,
2, the promise of the past
3, lastly a perpetual promise.
Let’s go deeper in the text…B clause
Joshua 1:5 “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.”
the promise of a personal presence,
As you look at the text that letter I, should jump out at you....

noun....someone aware of possessing a personal individuality
TALK, PREACH.....
God is personally talking to Joshua and making a promise of a personal presence from God....
a unbroken presence...

your Pastor has things going on his life and may not always answer his phone but I....TALK, PREACH.....
Next we see the promise of the past
was with Moses,
from the burning bush to the plagues, to the red sea, to the wilderness experience....God was with Moses...
and Joshua had witnessed all of that...
the good the bad and the ugly...
but thing Joshua could say was that God was with Moses....
(address Graduate and congregation).... You are the oldest so you have seen mama struggle. you have seen mama sad and happy....
but guess what look at her today...
God was with her....then and now...
is there anybody in here, that you can say, Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come; ’Tis grace hath brought me...
when I see the promise that was fulfilled in my past, I don’t know about you....TALK, PREACH.....
lastly,a perpetual promise.
the promise…to be with you
perpetual...never ending or changing: occurring repeatedly; so frequent as to seem endless and uninterrupted:
how can i argue this…how can i see this in the text....
1 word....WILL....
