Intro

Feeding 5000

which passover? doesn’t really matter, there are a bunch of people here

Jesus was healing and teaching and people have heard about him by now

Jesus gives a test in so many words for those who know him and have seen what he is capable of

A similar theme to the wedding of Cana

where there are crowds gathered full of worry and hope at the same time, Jesus offers rest and satisfaction

because of this, they want to force him into leadership and unlike any other person in his shoes, Jesus rejects the power and fame

choosing to be later despised by these people instead

Walking on Water

Jesus comes for the next miracle immediately

in the midst of their doubt and fear, Jesus brings peace and reassurance

Jesus brings focus on the important thing in front of them when all around them tries to break it

Bread of Life

in the synagogue in Capernaum Jesus recaps the high notes of his teaching so far

the people have followed him across the water because they are amazed and because they have recognized that Jesus is a free meal ticket

Jesus tells them they are looking for the wrong thing

he tells them once again that he has come to do what the Father has sent him and confirms that he is from heaven

he wants people to have life eternally and that will only come through belief in him

Application

in a world of confusion and fear and uncertainty, come and see a man who offers fulfillment and peace and real hope

one who offers all of these in a way that is lasting

nothing Jesus offers is temporary

everything he offers is real and helpful

but none of it is true if you refuse to believe
