For as long as I have remembered, I’ve told all my sons, as they’re about to leave our home for an event or an extended stay or an adventure…
“Remember WHO YOU ARE and WHOSE YOU ARE”

LIKE ALL HUMANITY, YOU WERE CREATED.

Created ON PURPOSE BY God
You are not the sum of random chances
You are not an accident
You were a miracle from the LORD - as all babies are
You were a gift to us after the unknowns of MY CANCER treatment
Created WITH PURPOSE FOR GOD
LIKE NO ONE ELSE, YOU ARE “CHASE ALEXANDER MILLER”

Your name means something:
CHASE
8 My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.
8 My soul followeth hard after thee:
Thy right hand upholdeth me.
this was our longing for our firstborn: was that our home would be a place where any/all of our children could chase after God
but time and time again, we’re reminded that He chase’s after us
even when you were running away at times
when you had to get “caught”; God was hot on your trail - pursuing you, loving you, calling you…for His glory and heart alone!
what a Savior!
ALEXANDER
Your family name has meaning. There was no male to carry on this name on my mother’s side. So you carry that legacy with you.
You are a part of a family…a loving family. Alexander is my middle name, and my mother’s maiden name, and my late father’s middle name. It means something to me.
MILLER
While many would say, in our culture, that you’re stuck with your last name…we don’t think of that at all
More than 25 years ago, your mother and I covenanted before God and man to share that name and follow after Him…together.
That name represents the covenant your mother and I have.
(Not only does your name have meaning)
Your smile means something - it has always lit up a room. With or without braces…
Your gifts mean something - Your ability to talk people from all ages and stages of life has been an asset for you for most of your life
Your creativity and artistic talent are proven…but they are gifts to you from the LORD that require diligence to continue to hone for God’s glory alone.
You were created like everyone else, in God’s image.
You were christened (named) like no one else - you alone are Chase Alexander Miller
Like every Disciple of Jesus, you were CALLED by God

OUT OF DARKNESS
7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.
13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
INTO GOD’S FAMILY
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
WOW, WHAT A SAVIOR!
REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE!
When you’re working at SnowBird this summer, waiting on the LORD to show you the next steps.
REMEMBER WHOSE YOU ARE!
REMEMBER WHOSE YOU ARE!
For most of your life with us, when I’ve uttered these words, this has meant, “you belong to us!”
we had responsibility for you.
But you know, that’s not the whole picture!
You don’t actually BELONG to us in the sense of ownership.
The LORD gave you to us, entrusting your care and nurture and shepherding to us.
It’s true…We still bear some of the responsibility for you as you launch out into this next chapter of God’s grand story that you get to be a part of.
It’s true…your actions public and private will still reflect on this family.
But the bigger picture is…now the “whose you are” takes on a whole new layer of meaning.
As a Christian, your identity is in Christ.
You are HIS and He is yours!
You belong to HIM!
…before you’re anything else; YOU’RE HIS! It trumps all other identities in your life!
You are A MARKED MAN!
Like Paul in Galatians 6:17, you bear the marks of JESUS!
You are A MARKED MAN!
You are MARKED FOR PURITY / HOLINESS!

THE BIBLE NORMALIZES:
a passionate relationship with Jesus Christ
a passionate love for His Church
a passionate pursuit of those who don’t know Jesus as LORD
You are MARKED FOR PURPOSE
(like David in Psalm 34)
to MAGNIFY THE LORD & LIFT UP HIS NAME
your purpose in LIFE is bring glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ alone
You are MARKED FOR PERSECUTION
You will be the odd man out when some of your friends want to undermine your purity, your passion for Christ, or your purpose
You will face opposition when you share Jesus with others
You may lose promotions, friends, interviews, and opportunities when you refuse to take the bait of watering down the Gospel, tossing out the Scripture, or making light of sin
DON’T DO IT
HOLD THE LINE
LIFT JESUS UP
LET HIM WORK IN YOU AND THROUGH YOU
MARKED MEN DON’T SHRINK BACK…RUN, CHASE RUN
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
FIGHT, CHASE, FIGHT!
11 But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
SUBMIT, CHASE, SUBMIT!
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE, CHASE ALEXANDER MILLER!
REMEMBER WHOSE YOU ARE, MAN OF GOD!
BLESSING:
9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
WHATEVER YOU DO…DO IT…ALL OF IT FOR THE GLORY OF GOD!
That’s how to be successful in this world plagued with identity crises…KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WHOSE YOU ARE!
