LESSON TWO
Walking in the Spirit with God
Key Bible Verse: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:25 (NKJV)
Lesson Objectives:
v Identify what the bible says about walking in the Spirit
v Determine the difference between walking in the Spirit verses walking in the flesh.
v How to be led by the Spirit
5:22–25 If we have allowed our flesh or spiritually dead human nature to be crucified by the power of the Holy Spirit and live our lives being filled with the Spirit of God, our lives will produce love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. It is only by regularly being filled with the Holy Spirit and living a life of daily Bible study, prayer to God, regular church attendance and Christian fellowship that this kind of spiritual fruit can be produced in our lives.
To “walk” in the Spirit means to walk out our daily life choices by embracing what the
Spirit values and refusing what the Holy Spirit is grieved by (Gal. 5:19-22). We must be
determined to walk in the Spirit’s values and make continual quality choices.
1. In order to walk in the Spirit we would have to have a renewed mind
a) 2 Corinthians 4:16
Notes For Verse 16
a [cause we faint not] For the sake of winning souls to glorify God (2Cor. 4:15), we suffer all things without fainting. The outward man is slowly dying through trials and sufferings, but the inward man is being renewed daily.
b [outward man] Found only here and refers to the body.
c [perish] Greek: diaphtheiro (GSN-<G1311>), corrupted; destroyed (Lk. 12:33; 1Tim. 6:5; Rev. 8:9; 11:18).
d [inward man] Refers to the soul and spirit -- the real person in the body (Jas. 2:26; Heb. 4:12; 12:23; 1Th. 5:23; Rev. 6:9; 2Cor. 5:8).
e [renewed] Greek: anakainoo (GSN-<G341>). Only here and Col. 3:10.
