Scripture

Let’s take a look at exactly that. The account of creation.
Genesis 1:1–4 NIV
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
1 - In the beginning - Before there was time.
We have a hard time because we are finite. We live in time. The idea of being outside of time.
God - Elohim - supreme bring of great might
Created heavens and the earth - or ALL THINGS
2 - Formless and void - or confusion and emptiness. God was shaping the planet
Spirit moving - This shows us intimacy. God didn’t “light the spark of creation” from a distant he was there. In it. He was intimately involved.
Most creation accounts beyond Jewish and Christian show their Gods as… and we were and accident. This is an important detail.
3 - God said - Willed/decreed and it was so. This shows his power and authority over the elements.
4 - Divided light and darkness - OR He set the earth on it’s axis. He set us in motion through the cosmos!!!
Hear this all together -
AT the beginning of time God created everything. It was full of confusion and emptiness. The mighty one mastered the chaos and gave it shape.
He willed it into order with just His words and set us on our path across the universe.
The beauty of what this means.
God intentionally made us!!!! From desire!!!!
People here today, You are intentionally created to be loved by God. That is the facts.
Genesis 1:5–8 NIV
God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
5 - He named the day and the night. bringing more order.
6 - God created our atmosphere.
In verses 5 and 6 he names night and day as we spin on our axis and He gives us the air we breathe and the water we live off of.
7 - God spoke not only the physical earth but the atmosphere into existence.
8 - He named the “vault” sky.
Here we see the basics of existence.
day (morning)
Night (Evening)
Water
Sky
This is all needed to sustain life. The basics of a class M planet (to borrow from Star trek)
Talk about the Goldilocks zone…
Genesis 1:9–10 NIV
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
9-10 - Day 3 -
He separated land from sea. Made fertile land for us to live and grow.
Genesis 1:11–13 NIV
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
11-13 - Let the land produce - notice this isn’t the same as speaking things into existence. God is calling it out of what has already been made. He miraculously established vegetation through his speech. He has authority over His creation.
Genesis 1:14–19 NIV
And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
14-15 - The atmosphere was cleared and we could see the great lights in the sky. The clouds cleared and the heavens were revealed.
16 - The greater light being the sun and the lesser light being the moon which reflects the light of the sun.
They are great lights compared to the other lights we see but our sun is smaller than others in the cosmos. BUT PERFECT for our position in the galaxy. God’s design.
Think about how the moon shapes our tides and how the tides shape our lands?
Think about how all of these things work together in harmony. The moon not only controls tides
NASAn has called the Moon Earth's long-standing shield against unpredictability of space that protected it from harmful radiations making it habitable.
Just an accident. So we are not only in the sweet spot for life to throve we also have protection that is just far enough away to protect all life on earth. pretty nifty. That was day 4.
So to recap…
Genesis 1:20–25 NIV
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day. And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
20-25 - Day 5 -
He made fish, birds, animals, and insects.
He thought that was good.
Genesis 1:26–31 NIV
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
26-27 - He then took special care to form humanity. He clothed us with His authority. Just as we hold authority over the world around us so too does God hold that same authority over us.
We are the only creature in all of creation to be given this gift.
28 - God gave us the gift of creation. He set a natural way for us to multiply and continue the work He began. He has always wanted us as partners as family.
Genesis 2:1–2 NIV
Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
The sabbath is important. God took time. SO should we all.

Application

what do we do with this. What does this all mean.
I wanted to walk you through the beauty of what God did for us.
We admire that wisdom, not only in the regular progress of creation, but in its perfect adaptation to the end.
We have seen the logical order of it and have tried to replace God with science. We try to remove the miracle out of what was done. God set it in motion and all of the rules science has found have been at His hands.
God is represented as pausing at every stage to look at His work. No wonder He contemplated it with complacency. Every object was in its right place, every vegetable process going on in season, every animal in its structure and instincts suited to its mode of life and its use in the economy of the world.
This world in all of its chaos has an incredible order.
He saw everything that He had made answering the plan which His eternal wisdom had conceived; and, “Behold it was very good”
