Question 2: What rule has God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him?
The Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him.
1. The Bible is God’s Word to Us
1. The Bible is God’s Word to Us
20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation.
21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2. The Bible is completely contained in the Old and New Testaments
2. The Bible is completely contained in the Old and New Testaments
Jesus always refers to the Old Testament as the Word of God and uses a couple of different ways of describing it.
Law and Prophets
27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
Law, Prophets, Psalms (Writings)
44 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”
We Cannot Make Up Scripture
15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,
16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.
Promise of Revelation
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Test for Scripture:
We only really need this for the NT because Jesus affirms the OT for us.
Also one reason for miracles.

2 You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you.
11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Conclusion:
God has revealed to us information about Himself.
His Word is that recorded and preserved revelation.
We should submit. The key is we can’t make it up ourselves.
