The story of the Israelites' exodus from Egypt vividly illustrates God's power to deliver His people from the clutches of their enemies. Despite being faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, God remained faithful to His promise and brought them to safety. This historical account reminds us that God is still in the business of delivering His people today.
What all has God delivered you from?
Where would you be without Jesus’ blood?
We certainly, as no Christian doubts, are dead both in soul and body: in soul, because of sin; in body, because of the punishment of sin, and through this also in body because of sin.
Augustine of Hippo
God delivers those who call on the name of the Lord from three circumstances:
death
certificate of debt
the enemies grasp
God delivers us from the charge of death.
Our hearts were far from Him through the sin in our lives.
Isaiah 29:13 “Then the Lord said, “Because this people draw near with their words And honor Me with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote,”
Christ did not circumcise our hearts; therefore, we had no inheritance from Him. But God told Jeremiah He would make a new covenant with His people.
Jeremiah 31:31–33 NASB95
“Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
We were dead in our transgressions against God.
Ephesians 2:1 NASB95
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
Man does not become spiritually dead because he sins; he is spiritually dead because by nature he is sinful.
John F. MacArthur
We who once were guilty, God sent our Lawyer to represent us to Him.
As Adam brought sin into the world, we were separated from God because of this sin. Christ brought us out of the charge of death by His atoning blood on the Cross. We who were once oblivious of God are now in harmony with Him because of this atonement. We were His enemy, and now we are His children. Our hearts were uncircumcised; now they are circumcised by Christ. We now have a life that the enemy cannot rob unless we allow Him to prey on us. Satan has no more extended dominion over you because you were resurrected with Christ. Romans 6:4
Romans 6:4 NASB95
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
God did not only take the Charge from us He also canceled the debt we owed.
God delivers us from the certificate of debt we owe.
It is the beginning of the month, meaning we must pay bills based on the debt we owe. What happens when we don’t pay this debt? We default to collection, and it affects our credit score. It essentially affects your ability to purchase items on credit. It also can affect your car insurance, rental, etc. We owed a debt that we could not pay. Nothing in our abilities could pay for this.
1. Certificate of Debt: χαρὀγραφον: it means a handwritten bill of debt; it is only used here in the NT.
2. We had a debt to pay because of our unrighteousness towards God. We have broken everyone of the commandments!
3. God understood this debt would be impossible for us to pay.
So, God, being who He is, sent His Son to pay what we could not pay. Romans 5:10
Romans 5:10 NASB95
For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
How would it make you feel if someone paid off your house? That is the most enormous debt most people have. Our most significant debt is our debt to God because of our rebellion against Him through our sins. But God sent us a gift to us but a brutal death to Jesus Christ to wipe our slate clean forever! He took that signed confession and nailed it to the Cross. The perpetual witness against us and canceled it through and in His death. He did this through triumphant defiance in the face of the blackmailing enemy holding this over you as a threat. 1 Peter 2:24
1 Peter 2:24 NASB95
and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.
God delivers us from the grasp of the enemy.
We were in the grasp of the enemy. He had complete control of us. I love it when people tell me they control their lives. We are persuaded by either the Holy Spirit or the enemy. Who we are listening to will tell us whose grasp is holding us. Before Christ, the enemy was blackmailing us, having a threat over us. Now, we can confess He is Lord and believe in our hearts the Father raised Him three days later. Once we have Christ, the enemy no longer has dominion over us.
We talked about the word “triumph” Wednesday night. The word “thriambeuo” means to lead captives, your defeated foe, in procession, parading them through the streets as your spoils.
What they thought was disgrace and death by the hostile forces who thought they had Him in their grasp, conquered forever, was turned on them as their defeat and captivity. Ephesians 4:8
Ephesians 4:8 NASB95
Therefore it says, When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men.”
If they had realized the truth, those “archons of this age” would not have crucified the Lord of Glory. 1 Corinthians 2:8
1 Corinthians 2:8 NASB95
the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;
Just as He made a public display of them when He conquered them, He has made a public display by allowing any condemnation against us to vanish.
The enemy has zero evidence against you and me. Ephesians 5:27
Ephesians 5:27 NASB95
that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.

Application:

If our debt is over, which it is, can we start living our lives free from the condemnations that the enemy still tries to tell us? We are free, AMEN!!! John 8:36
John 8:36 NASB95
“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
Do you understand that we were dead in our transgressions?
You are still lost until you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior.
If you allow the enemy lie to you or control you it is you believing him and not the Word of God.
Walk in Victory of Christ, knowing that you are now free. Look at the enemy and explain what his future is! Our LEGACY is because of the Lord, understanding the enemy, and knowing that God delivered us and has triumphed the enemy!
How our attitudes towards ourselves and others is our “E.”
