What do you know about the bible?
How many books are in the Bible? (66) OT39, NT27
How many authors? (40)
The Bible is a reflection of its Author. All books are. The Bible was written by God Himself as He worked through human authors in a process called “inspiration.”
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
16 For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes 17 when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” 18 We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, 21 or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.
Because the bible originated with God, it is Holy, and perfect, inerrant (without error).
The Bible itself claims to be perfect.
6 The words of the Lord are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
5 Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
Note that it doesn’t say God’s Word is “mostly” pure or scripture is “nearly” perfect.
I love this book; I love the word of God. Our desire and hope are that you also will grow to love and understand the immense value in it.
As we study the bible this year, we will see that it is the only book that we can use as a solid foundation to build our lives upon.
What is a foundation?
Whenever someone builds a home, the first thing they need to do is lay a foundation. This is the solid part that stays firm on the ground. Then they build on top of the foundation so their home will be stable and strong. The bible is full of wisdom and tells us the dangers of not building on a firm foundation.
46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”
Jesus used this illustration to explain the importance of His Words and acting on them. As we live each day, there will be choices and hard decisions to make, and we want to make the right decisions so we can grow strong and obey the laws of the Lord, and not do all the wrong things.
12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
Many people try to live life without paying any attention to God’s word, so they don’t have a firm foundation they can trust to help make good choices. So, if we want to please God and follow Him each day, we must look to His words as the foundation for our lives, it will help us stand firm and strong.
The Bible is God’s word, and we can trust everything it says!
If we believe it, obey all it commands us, it will change us forever.
Kids are full of faith
Train up a child in the way he should go-
Faith means belief and trust.
Biblical Faith is belief and trust in God based on evidence but without total proof.
Hebrews 11.1 “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
The Bible provides a foundation for our faith and guides our actions.
It calls for a strong belief. We must start with unwavering faith steadfast, firm.
Our Faith will grow and mature over time. This Faith is a lifelong journey that we need to exercise.
Children can grasp the basic concepts of the Bible, but a full understanding often deepens with life experiences. Kids understand the gospel, they understand sin, they understand the need for forgiveness. They believe in Jesus and are always ready to accept the gospel.
Get a grip chart-
By Faith
we obey God,
we believe all His promises,
we make sacrifices,
we wait on God knowing he is reliable,
by faith we are made righteous, Noah built the ark,
Abraham packed up and followed him to the unknown, Enoch walked with God, his faith please God.
It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying—“he disappeared, because God took him.” For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God. And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Our Faith is not just a blind trust. There is plenty of evidence to prove the bible is true.
We use an arcanum called FACES to teach you how to answer the question; “Is the bible true?
· Fulfilled Prophesies,
· Archeological evidence,
· Consistency of the bible,
· Extra-biblical writings,
· Scientific evidence.
Now that we have established the bible is true, and we can put our full trust in God. Let dive into the two verses in today’s lesson.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; 8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether
Can someone tell me what these verses are talking about? The Bible.
These verses are telling us something about the bible, Gods word.
Notice the word Bible is not in these verses, but there are five different words that describe, or mean Bible.
Can you tell me what they are?
1. The law of the Lord – the law of the Lord is perfect. Holy without errors.
What does it say the law of the Lord does? It Revives the soul. Reviving (converting) the soul is another way of saying that it changes your heart. The word of God will change our hearts and attitudes if we read it, believe it, and obey it.
The law of the Lord teaches us, (like a tutor) that we are sinners in need of forgiveness. It’s the law of the Lord that leads us to the cross. The Word leads us to Jesus Christ. Its all about Jesus!
Jn 3.3 unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Rom 6.4 tells us to walk in the newness of life
Eph 4.24 tells us to “put on the new self”, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
2. The Testimony of the Lord – is sure, making wise the simple.
What does this mean?
If we study the word of God, it will help all of us to be wise in the things of God. Wisdom is different than smarts. Wisdom is the ability to put Gods word into action in your life. There are millions of smart people (geniuses) who do not believe in God. The bible says, “only a fool says in his heart, there is no God”
3. The Statutes (Precepts) of the Lord – are right, rejoicing the heart.
What does it mean that the “rejoices the heart”? it brings us joy. Let me ask you;
When you have Joy what does it look like?
Is joy the same as happiness?
4. The Commandment of the Lord- is pure, enlightening the eyes.
What does that mean? Enlightening is a big word. Enlightening means that Gods word teaches us and helps us to see and understand the will of the Lord. To understand what is really true.
5. The judgments (rules) of the Lord – are true and righteous.
The Bible judges us, not vice versa. “For the word of God...judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Notice the relationship between “the heart” and “the Word.” The Word examines our heart so we will realize our need to come to Jesus.
Why can we trust all the words of the bible are true? Whose words, are they? Gods
That’s right! The Bible is God’s word, and we can trust everything it says! If we believe it, obey all it commands us, and use it as our foundation to guide us every day, it will change us forever.
We have one more verse to look at. Turn your bible to Proverbs 30:5
5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
How many of Gods words are true? Every word.
Our last verse said the rules of God are true and righteous ALL TOGETHER
All of them.
Proverbs 30:5 tells us something about God, what is it?
He is a shield. That’s correct
Who is he a shield to? Those who put their trust in Him.
What did I tell you earlier about FAITH. It means to put your belief and trust in Him
Prov 3:5-6 (my wife’s favorite verse)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
What is a shield used for? Protection.
Protection from what? The enemy and the bad influences in the world.
If we put our trust in God and give him our whole heart, then he will be your shield. He will protect you and guard your steps.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
In closing, lets turn back to
ps19.10
10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.
What is our great reward? Heaven.
