A little grace is better than many gifts.
J. C. Ryle
This one word ‘grace’ contains within itself the whole of New Testament theology.
J. I. Packer
Sovereign grace can make strangers into sons.
Charles Spurgeon
Theres a command and address to an audience. the commands have a "because", a conditional result-meaning this will happen-and the reason it will happen is because His yoke is easy and His burden light.
You see, what’s interesting about a yoke is a yoke doesn’t just burden you by yoking you to the yoke. A yoke also yokes you to somebody else or something else.

The grace of Jesus. Being a disciple of Christ. Pelagius and Augustine.
I chose this text because I want to explain how life with Christ is mean to be lived on His terms. It is a life of grace whereby we can do what He commands because He gifts us what He commands.
main ideas include the trinity beginning in verse 25. works and grace. toil and suffering. disappointment.
The Grace of God
God offers and calls us to receive the gift of grace and rest to all who are weary by means of faith in His Son.
Grace contains within itself the whole of New Testament Theology.- JI Packer.
or Sovereign grace can make strangers into sons.
The book was written by Matthew and was believed to be written to Jews, with the purpose to authenticate the message and person of Jesus Christ as Messiah and King. It was written approx. 30 years after the ascension of Christ.
Voluntarily take Jesus' yoke and learn from Him because He is gentle and meek, and humble (not impressive, or pretentious), and we will find rest for our souls.
eschatology in the previous pericope. judgement on those who do not receive the Son of God.
Theres a command and address to an audience. the commands have a "because", a conditional result-meaning this will happen-and the reason it will happen is because His yoke is easy and His burden light.
Invitation that Christ makes, the willful rejection of the restful rest and the voluntary yoke of slavery. we ought to learn from Christ, and learning to live like Him will translate to rest
Israel had been toiling since the beginning; the Lord was promising restful rest but they rejected every offer. The supreme offer was made through God Incarnate Himself Jesus Christ. He has done the work. By grace and through faith in Christ alone we receive rest from our labor and toil.
Yokes were heavy wooden crossbars used to connect two oxen together for more efficient plowing. Here, Jesus' yoke represents His teaching. allegiance to Him and His kingdom results in a sense of peace-it isn't laborious, like keeping the requirements of the Jewish leader of the time, but it is JOYFUL. There is a contrast between what the Pharisees are teaching and what Jesus teaches (which is why He says 'learn'). There are many contrasts between Moses and Jesus. Ultimately the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. The question begs...what burden is light and what yoke is easy. for that matter why is Jesus' yoke easy and His burden light. what qualifies that to be so...? Matthew 11:25-30 is a capsule summary of the message of Matthews entire gospel. Jesus reveals He is the revealer of the Father. He makes known the Father. Jesus isn't speaking about work but about need. the present tense points to a continuous state, and with them the heavily burdened. anyone who is weary of life's burden. Jesus is inviting people to follow Him, learn from Him, and to serve Him. It was not that He demanded less...we know this because all we need to do is read the Sermon on the Mount. He looked for more. But we would be empowered. You see the sacrifices would offer forgiveness but they wouldn't satisfy the deepest need of humanity which is a changed heart. Righteousness. (i guess here you can make the connection between anger and homicide, and bloody hands, and the priority that God has with worship and reconciliation....also find a point to speak about the toughness of discipleship...we speak about following Jesus but do we even know the commands Jesus gave us? Have we truly examined them.
I like this quote that says Christs yoke is like feathers to a bird; not loads but helps to motion.
i think the underlying biblical theology was that Israel was yoked to the law and couldn't realize that they were unable to accomplish everything it required. In addition, the Pharisees made it very hard for those who tried to earn forgiveness and righteousness with the law keeping. They were focused on hand ritual and not heart standing. theologically the main idea is that Christ was the atoning sacrifice needed to provide rest to humanity. because in Him we have been justified.
WHAT ARE THE QUESTIONS OF TODAY THAT I MUST ADDRESS?
A. EXPLAIN THE TEXT: WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? BE CLEAR ! BE CLEAR ! BE CLEAR !. THIS PART DEALS WITH THE PASSAGE AND THE PEOPLE.
B. PROVE IT! IS IT TRUE? USE EVERY LEGITIMATE MEANS TO PROVE YOUR CASE. REMEMBER GOD IS REVEALED IN THE WORLD, THE WORD, AND THE WORD THAT CAME INTO THE WORLD.
C. APPLY IT! WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE IF IT TRUE?
