King James Version (Luke 4:14-19)
14 nAnd Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. 16 tAnd he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
King James Version (Mark 2:17)
They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
This is the greater need! Some people have somehow come to make it about themselves! As long as the church is served then thats all that matters!

1. Jesus was anointed!

King James Version (Luke 4:18)
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me
Why was He anointed?
To feel good. To have a good time.
He gives us the reason.

2. He was anointed to preach the gospel to the poor!

King James Version (Luke 4:18)
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor;
He was anointed to preach the gospel.
What is the gospel? It’s the good news!
King James Version (John 3:16-17)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
The gospel was to the poor.
Literally to the poor.
King James Version (Matthew 19:23-26)
23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
King James Version (Matthew 5:3)
3  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

3. He was anointed to heal broken hearts!

King James Version (Luke 4:18)
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted

4. He was anointed to preach deliverance to the captives!

King James Version (Luke 4:18)
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives,
King James Version (Luke 8:31-36)
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

5. He was anointed to heal the blind!

King James Version (Luke 4:18)
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind,
Physical healer!
Spiritual healer!
King James Version (2 Corinthians 4:4)
the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

6. He was anointed to set at liberty them that are bruised!

King James Version (Luke 4:18)
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
The man on Jericho road!

7. He was anointed to proclaim an era of freedom!

King James Version (Luke 4:18-19)
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
The true story of Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield), who won the Congressional Medal of Honor despite refusing to bear arms during WWII on religious grounds. Doss was drafted and ostracized by fellow soldiers for his pacifist stance but went on to earn respect and adoration for his bravery, selflessness and compassion after he risked his life -- without firing a shot -- to save 75 men in the Battle of Okinawa.
