Intro

What do you think about when you hear the word Missions?
Most evangelical Christians think of going somewhere to share the gospel with others (specifically in another country)
Removing the “s” from Missions leaves the word Mission but how does that the meaning?
Mission is the purpose and calling God has given us that is fulfilled through missions.
I am afraid that the church today has lost the mission of our missions trips, and missions trips has become an avenue in which we can fulfill our own mission.

Mission of God

The first thing that we need to understand is the mission of God.
Matthew 5:17 ESV
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Jesus in this passage is referencing how since the beginning of creation Gods plan has always lead to Christ.
Luke 19:10 ESV
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Jesus in His own words states the purpose given to Him by God. To liberate the lost from the curse of Evil.

We Are Witnesses

2. The second thing that we need to understand is how we are witnesses.
Car Wreck Witness
- Driving down hwy 601
- A car ran a stop sign and T-boned another car and both cars were sent sliding into the ditch.
- I was the first person on scene and called 911, I was asked to stay as a witness to what happened.
Isaiah 43:10 (ESV)
“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord,
Paul was told by Ananias...
Acts 22:15 ESV
for you will be a witness for him to everyone of what you have seen and heard.
The Final words to His disciples...
Matthew 28:19 ESV
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
We as disciples of Christ are called to be witnesses of the truth in His word as well as the events in our own lives.

Conclusion

Just like I was asked by the police to stay as a witness to what I had scene.
We are told by Christ to be witnesses to all people of the grace, mercy, and life changing love of God that we have experienced.
