The Significance of I am

If you could create a statement about yourself what would it be?
For myself I’d say my name is Noah, I work at a bank, I’m married to Amanda, I am living to hopefully bring encouragement to your life by putting your attention to Jesus, our Living Hope.
I feel like no matter how much time I could spend trying to come up with a statement of sorts, I don’t think I could come up with something super profound. If I challenged you to share the statement you made up in your head with the group I bet that statement would feel rushed because you didn’t have enough time yourself to put deep thought into it.
When Jesus said seven different statements describing himself he meant every word he said with intentionality. Unlike anybody past or present in this world,He never intended to mess with people, He never lived to make a profit, He never lived to incite people’s interest or entertain them, He lived and died and rose again to flip the world on its head.
To the degree that Jesus was intentional with His words, I hope to be as intentional and so by doing my best to communicate the gospel of John, I want to take 7 weeks with you covering 7 of the most important statements Jesus used to describe Himself.
Today, we will begin our series by covering the first of His 7 “I am statements”,

I Am the Bread of Life

John 6:35 ESV
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
