Generational Legacy

We live to know Him and make Him known
Starts tomorrow
We encounter God
When we hear God and obey God
Everything starts to change
Your life, your families life,
Everything we do
He first does a work in you so he can work through you
Psalm 112:1–2 NKJV
1 Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments. 2 His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.
We’ve touched on the topic of Legacy in this fear of God series
Your descendants will be might on the earth
Your descendants will be blessed the people who fear the Lord
The people around you are impacted by your obedience to God
We want to finish in obedience
I want to talk about what Legacy looks like
When you think of people who left a legacy who do you think of?
Maybe it’s a family member or a friend
Maybe you think of great men and women of the past
Mother Teresa
Abraham Lincoln
Martin Luther King Jr.
Think of people who left a terrible legacy
Adolf Hitler
Joseph Stalin
That hunter that killed Bambi’s mom
What does Legacy look like for us?
They may not write about us in the pages of History
Are names might not be know to Kings and rulers around the World
But to our family and the people around us, we can leave a legacy
Most importantly leave a legacy in Heaven
Kingdom Legacy
Abraham was a man that left a legacy:
The patriarch of the Israelite people through Isaac
He was the Father of many nations
Heralded as a hero of faith according to scripture
Abraham is called the friend of God
He’s honored by the Jews, Muslims and Christians as a great man
Abraham was not born into a good legacy
As a matter of fact
Abrahams dad was not someone who Feared the Lord
Joshua 24:2 NKJV
2 And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Your fathers, including Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods.
Including Terah the Father of Abraham
Abraham was born and raised in Ur of the Chaldees, which is in modern Iraq
Nanna, the moon god
The moon was worshiped as the power that controlled the heavens and the life cycle on earth
Cool thing to highlight from Genesis 15 when took Abraham outside to show Him the stars
I think He was showing Him his magnitude
You once worshipped the moon
I’m the one who made the moon and when you get on my plan there’s no end to your legacy
Abraham chooses to serve God
He get out from His country and gets away from the harmful influences in his life
He has Isaac the promised child and God asks Him to sacrifice Him
Genesis 22:11–17 NKJV
11 But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” So he said, “Here I am.” 12 And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” 13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” 15 Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, 16 and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son—17 blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.
vs. 12 now I know that you Fear God
Abraham Feared God and was obedient:
The blessings that followed:
The Lord blessed him in every way
Abraham was very rich in cattle, in silver and in gold
What’s even more important is that His Son and his grandson served God
His legacy produced JESUS
Even though they might have wrestled with God
Isreal means to wrestle with God
They feared the Lord
Genesis 25:11 NKJV
11 And it came to pass, after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac dwelt at Beer Lahai Roi.
Genesis 26:12–13 NKJV
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. 13 The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous;
Even in a famine Isaac reaps a hundredfold
Multiplication in obedience
Deuteronomy 8:17–19 NKJV
17 then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ 18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. 19 Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the Lord your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.
Which one do you want?
Serve other thing or me?
Psalm 128:1 NKJV
1 Blessed is every one who fears the Lord, Who walks in His ways.
Psalm 128:1–4 NLT
1 How joyful are those who fear the Lord all who follow his ways! 2 You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How joyful and prosperous you will be! 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine, flourishing within your home. Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees as they sit around your table. 4 That is the Lord’s blessing for those who fear him.

If you’ve been taught or you believe that God doesn’t want you to prosper in every area of your life
I have to wonder what version of the Bible you are reading
Who is this For you might ask?
That couldn’t possibly for me
You don’t know what I’ve done
You don’t know what kind of family I’m from
Band:
Galatians 3:13–18 NKJV
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 15 Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. 16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ. 17 And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. 18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
SEED-
from which a plant germinates
the seed i.e. the grain or kernel which contains within itself the germ of the future plants
of the grains or kernels sown
metaph. a seed i.e. a residue, or a few survivors reserved as the germ of the next generation (just as seed is kept from the harvest for the sowing)
We are now the the offshoots of the legacy of Jesus
We are partakers of His divine nature
Partakers of His Legacy
Jonathan Edwards
was a Puritan Preacher in the 1700s.  He was one of the most respected preachers in his day. He attended Yale at the age of thirteen and later went on to become the president of Princeton college. He married his wife Sara in 1727 and they were blessed with eleven children. Every night when Mr. Edwards was home, he would spend an hour conversing with his family and then praying a blessing over each child. Jonathan and his wife Sarah passed on a great, godly legacy to their eleven children.
An American educator, A.E. Winship decided to trace the descendants of Jonathan Edwards almost 150 years after his death.  His findings are remarkable, especially when compared to another man from the same time period known as Max Jukes.
Jonathan Edwards’ legacy includes: 1 U.S. Vice-President, 1 Dean of a law school, 1 dean of a medical school, 3 U.S. Senators, 3 governors, 3 mayors, 13 college presidents, 30 judges, 60 doctors, 65 professors, 75 Military officers, 80 public office holders, 100 lawyers, 100 clergymen, and 285 college graduates.
Max Jukes:
42 different men in the New York prison system were traced back to him.
Jukes’ descendants included: 7 murderers, 60 thieves, 190 prostitutes, 150 other convicts, 310 paupers, and 440 who were physically wrecked by addiction to alcohol. Of the 1,200 descendants that were studied, 300 died prematurely.
These contrasting legacies provide an example of what some call the five-generation rule. “How a parent raises their child — the love they give, the values they teach, the emotional environment they offer, the education they provide — influences not only their children but the four generations to follow, either for good or evil.”
Matthew 6:33 NKJV
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
You can be the start of a spiritual Legacy today:
Alter Call:
Romans 10:9–10 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Sinners Prayer:
"God, I know that I am a sinner.
I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin.
I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior.
I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness.
I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior.
Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!"
