Introduction

Luke 2:41–45 KJV 1900
Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

They were in a routine

It’s something they did every year. you do it every Sunday

When They Lost Him

Luke 2:43 “And when they had fulfilled the days…”

After they had completed their duties

Are you only keeping him around when you decide to:
Read
Pray
Study
Come to Church
Is He only there when you are supposed to look good?

When They were Returning To Their Place Of Comfort

1. They were going somewhere they had been many of times
a. They didn’t feel the need to talk to him

Where They Sought Him

Luke 2:43–45 “And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.”

Where They Found Him

Luke 2:45–50 “And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.”

The Last Place They Left Him

They went on a day without even realizing they weren’t in God’s presence
How ?Being a parent I don’t understand it
But it’s they same way with us and God
we don’t proximity a priority with God! We should long to be as close as we can to God!
we desire destination more than devotion

His Mothers Response

1. “why hast thou thus dealt with us? Behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.”
a. “How is it that ye sought me?”
i. How are you seeking him? are you looking in the wrong places for him?
Maybe you haven’t heard from God in a while because he is in the last place you left him after you made without him and you can keep going from person to person but you will never receive the peace you are looking for until you return to Jesus!
