Text: 1 Samuel 28:1-20
Samuel is dead (vs. 3)
Saul had put away those…
Saul was afraid because of the Philistines.
He enquired of the Lord but the Lord did not respond.
Saul sought a women that had a familiar spirit, obviously knowing they were not all put away...
Saul disguised himself.
The women asks who he would like brought up? (11)
Saul’s request is for Samuel to be brought up… (11)
The women was afraid… Indicating that she had never seen anything like this before. She knew Saul was before her without any mention of it…
What she saw was “gods ascending out of the earth...”
Samuel was before Saul in spirit… Saul doesn’t see him but perceives he is there.
Samuel doesn’t deliver him but speaks truth about why he is where he is at, and what is going to happen...
tomorrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me:… (vs. 19)
Samuel was not before Saul in body but in spirit… Saul and his sons were going to Abraham’s bosom… which is where Samuel was waiting… Why was he waiting?
Acts 13:16-39 Paul preaching at Antioch...
Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.
For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
