Lessons from a Spirit-filled Church
The Holy Spirit Is the Difference
It is difficult to forget a spectacular event. In fact, one revels in the ability to recall the details of incredible moments. Talking about something so spectacular that it literally changes your life makes for good conversation. That’s why people like to talk about wonderful trips, vacations, meeting famous people, receiving special acknowledgments, or being successful in some way. Let’s face it, we all like to talk about something exciting and what makes is even more believable is the fact that we were there! It was our experience.
There’s nothing like being able to share a personal experience. It’s different than “I heard!” When the conversation is based on what you know, there is a certain confidence that accompanies the story telling. You speak with a voice of authority on the issue because it was indeed your story, your experience, it happened to you, or while you were there. You saw it first hand, you were an eye witness. Nothing can trump that.
It’s like the day of Pentecost, according to the scriptures, that was a spectacular day. It was dynamic, descriptive, distinctive and demonstrative. The day of Pentecost was a day that shifted the way people experienced faith and religion, it was transitional in that the laws of God were not just written on tablets of stone, but in the hearts of believers, it was pivotal in that the privilege of religion that was before hand reserved for certain folks was now available to as many as believed. Pentecost was amazing!
