Good morning Church!!

BIBLES OUT…Galatians 3:23-4:7

Last week we discussed how the Law came hundreds of years (430 years to be exact) after a promise that God made to Abraham

That promise was that he would bless the nations through a son of Abraham that will bring righteousness by faith…

Not by works of the law…

And that…that promise was not voided because of the placement of the law after it…but the promise is unchanging and unfading…

As we ended our time together last week we saw that JESUS is the fulfillment of the promise made to Abraham…

TODAY: coming out of that we will dive deeper into that point to see how Jesus actually fullfilled the promise…

And also…

what promised blessing He brought to us…

And let me tell you…we are only going to dip our pinky toe into the blessings Jesus provides us with this morning…

We could spend a lifetime investigating ALL the blessings Christ has given us…

Before we get started..

Im going to let y'all in on a little secret about expository preaching...

If you look closely there is a bit of a pattern to it…

The way I was taught…

(READ, ILLUSTRATE, APPLY)

I have to tell you church this was unexpectedly one the the hardest text ive had to preach…

Full transparency…I was pretty much done writing the sermon for this week on Friday…

Yesterday as i was reading and praying through it…

I concluded that I was deviating from the text too much…

I was making it too complicated…

I was getting in the way…

So I scrapped it…

And started fresh

Rewriting a weeks worth of work on a Saturday night is not ideal…i was panicking a little bit yall

Thats when I realized…

THIS SERMON WAS ALREADY WRITTEN…

The teaching and the illustration for the teaching…its already here…

It doesnt need me…

I didnt have to come up with anything…the Lord provided it for me in His word…

I didnt “sermon smith” this thing at all yall…

If you came here this morning to hear ME preach your going to be disappointed…

Im just gonna be reading to you

Because today…

The Lord, through the apostle Paul has provided the teaching and the illustration for this sermon…

and all I have to do is read it and help connect the dots…

Let me help you see it…

Verses 3:23-29 is the teaching

Verses 4:1-7 Paul is going to illustrate the teaching so we can understand it better..

In the end we are going to see what God is pointing to in the sermon that He wrote!!!

YALL READY?!?!?!

READ 3:23-4:7

Coming out of the text…

we are going to see 3 points that the Lord is giving us in His sermon this morning…

The first thing He shows us…

He reminds us who we were under the Law…

We Were:

Enslaved ( 3:23-24// 4:1-3)

We talked about this last week

Man is Held captive under the Law…Imprisoned…

BY LEGALISM

Law was the guardian (KJV schoolmaster)

School master tells you when your wrong…tells you what the right answer is…

but you have to do the work to correct yourselves…to please the schoolmaster…

Thats what PUl is comparing the law to…

3:19 Law was added because of sin

Like a school master, the law outs mankind when we sin…

Problem is..man sins ALOT!

So it really enslaves us under sin…

Paul illustrates in v.1-3 (Read)

Man was designed to be heirs (Jews God’s chosen people)

but sin separated us from God… Adam/Eve

Because we are sinful…we aren't ready to be heirs…

HOW MANY OF US FALL SHORT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS EVERY DAY!!!

So a guardian was placed over us…

And that guardian was the Law…

Any person who is ruled by another we would call a slave right?

We too were enslaved by the elementary principals of the world…

-By the law and ceremonial rituals for the Jews

-And for the Gentiles Paul is speaking to…

they were enslaved by the Pagan ceremonial and ritualistic idol worship (the moral law)

So this is where mankind was yall…

ENSLAVED UNDER THE LAW…

BUT THEN JESUS CAME!!!!

READ 26-27

KJV v. 26 “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

How did this happen?

How did we go from slave to children???

Paul illustrates this for us in...

READ 4:4-5

THE BIBLE SAYS THAT THROUGH JESUS…

We are:

Redeemed (v. 3:26-27// 4:4-5)

Sent forth His son…Jesus

Born of a woman…

born under the law...

So God came down from heaven…

Incarnate…as a man…

to live under the same law…

JESUS WAS BORN UNDER THE LAW…

LIVED PERFECTLY UNDER THE LAW…

DIED UNDER THE LAW…

SO THAT…HE COULD REDEEM US INTO A LIFE THE LAW DOES NOT OPERATE IN!!!

We couldn’t do it so Jesus did for us…

There was a gap between man and righteousness of God and Jesus bridged it!!!!

HOW???

HE GOT US ADOPTED YALL…

Understand something…

We were a lost enslaved child wandering the world….

Filthy with sin…

AND JESUS SHOWED UP ON EARTH…WENT TO SINNERS AND SAID “I CAME HERE FOR YOU”

IM GOING TO MAKE YOU MINE!!!!

And HE adopted US!!!!!

We had no father…

Just a guardian who ruled over us and enslaved us...

But through Jesus we were pulled out of that enslavement…

AND NOW WE ARE ONE IN CHRIST JESUS!!

The bible says when we were saved by this faith…

Baptized…here he is illustrating the washing clean of your sins thorough faith in Christ…

Paul says we PUT ON Christ

Our identity now is in Jesus…

Here is what the text is saying…

When God looks at you Christ follower…

Even though you have sinned against Him…

Even though you have fallen short

Alls He see’s is Jesus…All He sees is His beloved Son...

Because through Faith in Christ alone you have put on Jesus

AND NOW…THAT WE HAVE BEEN REDEEMED THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS…ADOPTED AS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD…

Paul tells us…

We live as :

One (with Jesus) (v. 3:28-29//4:6-7)

We already established that we are children of God through faith in Jesus…

But since we are children of God through faith…that also makes us HEIRS

By definition HEIR is that of an inheritor…those who receive their allotted possession by right of sonship.

We are heirs to the promise God gave to Abraham…All who place their faith in Him alone…

Romans 8:17 “and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”

We are inheritors of all Jesus was given…

And that list is long church…

Too long to dive into right now…

But lets focus on the most important thing we inherited through Jesus…

the thing that saves us...

HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS!!!

2 Corinthians 5:21 “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Jesus took ALL of OUR SIN

And we inherited ALL OF HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS

And we are only Heirs because Jesus made us one in Him!!!

v28 READ AGAIN

Bible says “There is no more Jew or Greek”…

No more man or woman…

No more slave or free man…

ALL ARE ONE IN CHRIST JESUS…

this is a radical shift man

this is completely different than anything the worshippers in this era have ever heard of

All through out the OT there has ALWAYS been a difference between Jew and Greek…

Think about who Paul is addressing…Judaizers right?

Who thought they were more righteous because they lived under the law…

WE TALKED LAST WEEK ABOUT TITLES…

How the title Jew meant that they were God’s people…

Because of the promise to Abraham…

Because they are God’s chosen people…and they were…

But the gospel has changed everything!

Now ALL who place their faith in Jesus are seen as righteous

BECAUSE HE HAS MADE US ONE WITH HIM!!!!

What kind of God do we serve y’all?!?!?

That He would make us one with Him???

Think about this…..

Even the men who sentenced Jesus to death…

The men who beat him bloody…

Who spat on Him…

Who pressed the crown of thorns into His scalp...

Even the men who drove the nails through His hands and feet…

If any of those men placed their faith in Him…

THEY WOULD BE MADE ONE WITH HIM!!!!

If your in this room today and haven't placed your faith in Jesus because you think you are too far gone…

Maybe you've lied, cheated, stolen…

Maybe you have committed adultery…

Maybe you have murdered...

Hear this…the man writing this letter..PAUL…was a persecutor and murder of God’s children…

And placed his faith in Christ…and NOW HE IS TELLING YOU…YOU TOO CAN BE ONE WITH JESUS!!!

ALL OF THIS IS POSSIBLE…BECAUSE OF THE GOSPEL!!!

BECAUSE OF JESUS!!

THATS WHAT PAUL IS TRYING TO SHOW US TODAY…

THATS WHAT HE IS PUSHING THESE GALATIAN CHRISTIANS TO SEE!!!

ITS ALL ABOUT THE ONE TRUE GOSPEL OF JESUS!!!!

THE ANSWER IS THE GOSPEL!!!!

Notice how this text this morning was structured…

Like a testimony ( rescue story)

who we were before…Enslaved to sin

The moment we heard the gospel and placed our faith in it…we were Redeemed…

How we live now…that we are One with Christ

The Holy spirit dwelling inside of our heart crying out Abba Father!!!

leading us to abide in Christ…

Through Jesus we go from enemies of God to sons of God!!!

IF YOUR NOT A BELIEVER IN THIS ROOM:

hear this!!!! No matter what sins you’ve committed …

No matter how bad you have been!!!

JESUS IS THE REDEEMER…

YOU TO CAN BECOME SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF A HOLY GOD THROUGH FAITH IN THE DEATH< BURIAL< AND RESSURECTION…

CALL OUT TO HIM!!!!

IF YOU ARE A FOLLOWER OF JESUS IN THIS ROOM:

hear this…Jesus dwells inside of you…

the spirit of Christ is in your hearts…

And its crying out to the Lord always on your behalf…

YOU ARE REDEEMED!!!

SO LIVE LIKE IT!!!

LIVE AS ONE WITH JESUS!!!

Strive to walk like the one you are one in!!

YOU HAVE A LION INSIDE OF YOU!!!!

Live like it!!!

DO NOT FEAR!!!

DO NOT PARTAKE IN YOUR FLESHLY DESIRES…

Live like Christ!!!

WORSHIP,WALK,WORK, AND WITNESS CHRIST!!!
