Psalm 105:1–4 “Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore!”
Minister: Lift up your hearts!
Congregation: We lift them up to the Lord!
PRAYER
PRAYER
O Lord, you have established your faithfulness in the very heavens. And so you are able to carry us week after week by that same love with which you sought us. You are the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Your faithfulness is manifest through the testimony of generations. Therefore we, the church militant, wage war on the forces of darkness this morning by our songs of praise. We are confident, not in the wisdom of our words, nor the skill of our hands but only in our Lord the victor. We ask you Lord, that as all your saints on earth and heaven join before You in worship this Lord’s Day, that You would envelop all the remaining strongholds of evil, turning them into fortresses of righteousness.
Almighty God, we worship you now through Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with You, and the Holy Spirit, One God, world without end, and Amen.

EXHORTATION (Samuel Davidson)
EXHORTATION (Samuel Davidson)
This is how Joshua 7 begins, “But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.” So, the sin of one man is ascribed to the whole community! You will remember that Joshua didn’t take more than three thousand men to battle at Ai because it was supposed to be a quick and smooth operation. Instead, Israel got defeated badly and what is more? The people’s hearts melted before God’s enemies. And when Joshua pressed God in deep repentance as to why this had happened, God did not give Joshua the grace of victory. Not yet. There was sin in the camp that needed to be dealt with. Achan had held on to some of the things from Jericho that were meant to be utterly destroyed. So by divine ordaining, Achan was called out. He gave glory to God by confessing his sin and was put to death before all the assembly. And not only he but all of his possession and even his children.
What is God teaching us here through the example of Achan? That sin is never private. We are not isolated individuals but rather are bound up with each other in ways we do not understand. Your sins affect your wife, your children, your things (your possessions). The saints around you, to your left and to your right, ahead of you and behind you. Your sins affect them and their sins affects you. Your sin does not just remain in your heart. But by God’s ineffable love and grace toward us, we are not just bound up with each other but are also bound up inextricably with Christ our Lord. With Christ as our head, it is not possible for the church to remain undefiled. Our uncleanness does not pollute Him, but His holiness purifies us. The remedy of Christ’s blood must be applied to the root of the matter: and that is our hearts.
This reminds us of our need to confess our sins so let us prepare to do so as we sing..

CONFESSION OF SIN
CONFESSION OF SIN
So, as you are able please kneel in confession before God
Psalm 119:71–72 “It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes. The law of Your mouth is better to me Than thousands of coins of gold and silver.”
Heavenly Father, we confess that we have failed to love our neighbour by thinking only of our selfish interests. We have turned our backs on you, forgetting that nothing is hidden from you. We have not delighted in your saints. We have denied by our actions the fact that you have knit us together with Christ and with each other. Lord, we are sorry that so often, your name is maligned among the Gentiles because of our sin. We pray you forgive us of these our sins.
You have called Your church to truth in the inward parts, so we confess our individual sins to you now, Selah.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Please rise for the assurance of pardon!
Psalm 119:41–42 “Let Your mercies come also to me, O Lord— Your salvation according to Your word. So shall I have an answer for him who reproaches me, For I trust in Your word.”
God’s river from Zion has been flowing since Christ rose from the dead, giving life to all who would drink from it. Thanks be to God that God’s unstoppable grace comes to engulf our sickness, our death, our defilement and our drought. Slowly but surely, Christ purifies his bride. Christian, you are no longer a slave to sin. You may walk in the newness of life for,
Minister: Your sins are forgiven through Christ.
Congregation: Thanks be to God!
CONFESSION OF FAITH
CONFESSION OF FAITH
Having confessed our sins, let us now confess our common faith by singing the words of the apostles’ creed
Minister: Christian, what do you believe?
Congregation: I believe in God the Father Almighty,Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, Hisonly begotten Son, our Lord. He was conceivedby the Holy Ghost, and born of the virgin, Mary.He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hades. On the third day He rose again from the dead, ascended into Heaven, and sits at the right handof God the Father Almighty; from thence He willcome to judge the living and the dead. I believein the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, thecommunion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, theresurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Minister: Our Lord was tempted but could not fall,
Congregation: And our Lord had bones that could not break,
Minister: Not because His bones were of a different substance,
Congregation: But rather because Scriptures cannot be broken.
Minister: And Scripture said He would see the travail of His soul and be satisfied.
Congregation: Amen.

MEDITATION
MEDITATION
Do you seek authority to effect good in the land for God’s glory? Do not seek authority from the world. Authority and power and honour are not stored behind ivory-tower doors and parliament houses. True authority in this world comes from Godward sacrifice. That is how Christ became King of this world. He humbled Himself to the point of irrecognition, became man, lived a sinless life but was scorned. He suffered and was rejected. He died on a cross and rose again from the dead. Therefore, he ascended to the throne higher than any. God calls you to follow in his example. Because Christ has walked this path in your stead, you are welcome to rule with Him in imitation of Him. Revelation 2:27 quotes Psalm 2 where Messiah’s rule over the nations with a rod of iron is described. In Revelation, Christ Jesus himself applies this psalm to you. If you endure, He says, you will receive rule over the nations even as He received rule over the nations.
As you do the work of building Christendom in your own heart, in your home, in your town, remember the way to true authority and rule. Contrary to the brazen claims of satanic governments, the way to receive authority in this world is not to grasp for it by appeasing the right man but to give of yourself in obedience to God and to neighbor. But you cannot give of yourself until you receive from God. So God has called you this day to receive His Gospel, receive Christ in the word preached and in this table set before you. As you eat this bread and drink this wine, do it in faith. Faith in Christ. Trust Him, receive Him. And in Him receive the power to inherit and to rule everything else. So come and welcome to Jesus Christ.
THE BREAD
THE BREAD
For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he broke it:
Lord, Thou Hast Searched Me.............................279a
And when Jesus had given thanks, he broke it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
THE WINE
THE WINE
Lord, Thou Hast Searched Me............................279b
After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
