G Morning - LC!
Today, MY FOCUS IS NOT SO MUCH ON YOU!
My goal today is to encourage you, strengthen, you, create a desire of holiness in you, and cause a sense of wonder in you, by placing all my focus today on the person of Jesus.
As followers of Jesus we often are too familiar with Him or at least we think we are.
God incarnate / born a baby to the virgin Mary / Lived a righteous life / died in my place and for the healing of my sinfulness and the curse of death / Rose from the dead / Ascended to the right hand of the Father / Poured out the HS onto the Church / And is coming again to set all things right.
All of this is true but none of it tells us who He is.
To some He is a Bobble head that always answers yes to us.
To some - He is the boy friend that chases us down. or the best friend that will never let us down.
Still others see Him as savior and even Lord!
But I ask, are you wonderfully fearful of Him!
When you think of Him do you tremble or desire to bow or fall prostrate on the ground?
IS JOHN’S VISION OF JESUS THE IMAGE YOU HAVE?
IS JOHN’S VISION OF JESUS THE IMAGE YOU HAVE?
Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands;
and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash.
His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire.
His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters.
In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun shining in its strength.
When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last,
and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.

TODAY, I WANT US TO SEE A GLIMPSE OF JESUS.
THE JESUS WHO HAS ALWAYS BEEN
THE JESUS THAT WAS BEFORE ALL CREATION.
THE JESUS THAT LEAD ISRAEL INTO THE PROMISE LAND
THE JESUS THAT SPOKE TO MOSES / WALKED WITH ABRAHAM/ AND CHOSE AND FAUGHT FOR GIDEON.
I WANT US TO LOOK AT THE MYSTERY OF GOD IN THE OT TODAY.
A few stories and passages and then I want to ask a simple question to end today.
HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND TO THE BIBLICAL PRESENTATION OF JESUS?
———————————————————————————
WHO IS THIS JESUS?
WHO IS THIS JESUS?
FOUR OT TITLES THAT SHOW JESUS IS YAHWEH AND AT THE SAME TIME A DISTINCT PERSON WHO INTERACTS WITH YAHWEH AND HUMANITY.
THIS IS KNOWN AS HYPOSTASIS - JESUS IS THE SUBSTANCE OF YAHWEH.
TRINITY - ONE GOD THREE ETERNAL HYPOSTASIS - ONE GOD THREE PERSONS WHO ARE THE SAME SUBSTANCE.
THE ANGEL OF THE LORD
THE ANGEL OF THE LORD
Now Moses was pasturing the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed.
So Moses said, “I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up.”
When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
Then He said, “Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”
He said also, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Then Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
Angel of the Lord - messanger of Yahweh
Yaweh called to Moses from inside the Bush
Angel of the Lord spoke - “I am the God of your father, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.
The Angel of the Lord iis distiguished from Yahweh in vs 2
Later the Angel of the Lord identifies as Yahweh
Two Yahwehs or One Yahweh in two Persons.
WAIT IT GETS BETTER -
WAIT IT GETS BETTER -
But He said, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!”
AND THEN WE HAVE GIDEON - WHO DOES HE SEE?
AND THEN WE HAVE GIDEON - WHO DOES HE SEE?
The Lord’s angelic messenger came and sat down under the oak tree in Ophrah owned by Joash the Abiezrite. He arrived while Joash’s son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress so he could hide it from the Midianites.
Then the Lord himself turned to him and said, “You have the strength. Deliver Israel from the power of the Midianites! Have I not sent you?”
Then the Lord himself turned to him and said, “You have the strength. Deliver Israel from the power of the Midianites! Have I not sent you?”
The Lord’s messenger touched the meat and the unleavened bread with the tip of his staff. Fire flared up from the rock and consumed the meat and unleavened bread. The Lord’s messenger then disappeared.
When Gideon realized that it was the Lord’s messenger, he said, “Oh no! Master, Lord! I have seen the Lord’s messenger face to face!” The Lord said to him, “You are safe! Do not be afraid! You are not going to die!”
Angel of the Lord distinct from Yahweh
Then the angel is Yahweh
What we have is the visible Yahweh - The word of Yahweh in the Flesh
2nd person of the Triune God - Personal presence of Yahweh.
THE ANGEL OF THE LORD IN THE OT IS, THE WORD OF GOD MADE FLESH.
THE PERSON OF YAHWEH IN THE FORM OF A MAN
THE PRESENCE OF YAHWEH THAT HUMANITY CAN SEE.
ONE MORE -
“I am going to send an angel before you to protect you as you journey and to bring you into the place that I have prepared.
“For My angel will go before you and bring you in to the land of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will completely destroy them.
Now the angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land which I have sworn to your fathers; and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you,
and as for you, you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed Me; what is this you have done?
“Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; but they will become as thorns in your sides and their gods will be a snare to you.’ ”
When the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the sons of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept.
For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe.
No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.
JESUS IS THE ANGEL OF THE LORD
HE IS THE SECOND PERSON OF YAHWEH
HE IS THE DEFENDER OF GOD’S PEOPLE
AND HE IS THE JUDGE OF THOSE WHO REBEL.

THE WORD OF THE LORD
THE WORD OF THE LORD
After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram! I am your shield and the one who will reward you in great abundance.”
But Abram said, “O sovereign Lord, what will you give me since I continue to be childless, and my heir is Eliezer of Damascus?”Abram added, “Since you have not given me a descendant, then look, one born in my house will be my heir!”
But look, the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but instead a son who comes from your own body will be your heir.”The Lord took him outside and said, “Gaze into the sky and count the stars—if you are able to count them!” Then he said to him, “So will your descendants be.”
Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord considered his response of faith as proof of genuine loyalty.
ABRAHAM WANTED ASSURANCE
THE WORD OF THE LORD MADE A COVENANT AND WALKED THROUGH THE DEAD ANIMALS SWEARING HIS OATH TO ABRAHAM.
Now the word of the Lord came to me saying,
The Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ But go to whomever I send you and say whatever I tell you.
Then the Lord stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me,
“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.
Again, the Word of the Lord is identified as Yahweh
Physical, human like appearance.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was fully God.The Word was with God in the beginning. All things were created by him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created.
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
THE WISDOM OF GOD
THE WISDOM OF GOD
Logos does not just mean word but also wisdom.
If Jesus is the Word of God He must also be identified in the OT as the Wisdom of God.
“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way,
Before His works of old.
“From everlasting I was established,
From the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth.
“When there were no depths I was brought forth,
When there were no springs abounding with water.
“Before the mountains were settled,
Before the hills I was brought forth;
While He had not yet made the earth and the fields,
Nor the first dust of the world.
“When He established the heavens, I was there,
When He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep,
When He made firm the skies above,
When the springs of the deep became fixed,
When He set for the sea its boundary
So that the water would not transgress His command,
When He marked out the foundations of the earth;
Then I was beside Him, as a master workman;
And I was daily His delight,
Rejoicing always before Him,
Rejoicing in the world, His earth,
And having my delight in the sons of men.
“Now therefore, O sons, listen to me,
For blessed are they who keep my ways.
“Heed instruction and be wise,
And do not neglect it.
“Blessed is the man who listens to me,
Watching daily at my gates,
Waiting at my doorposts.
“For he who finds me finds life
And obtains favor from the Lord.
“But he who sins against me injures himself;
All those who hate me love death.”
Yahweh possessed him from the beginning
Yahweh begot him
before all creation He was.
The very wisdom of God is Jesus.
but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

APPLICATION:
APPLICATION:
HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND TO THE BIBLICAL PRESENTATION OF JESUS?
Humility -
When we think of Jesus we need to understand who He is.
He is Yahweh - Judge - God - creator - wisdom - truth - savior.
Our posture of heart, mind, and body needs to be one of humility.
One thing we should learn to practice is to be prostrate before Him.
Like the prophets we should tremble at His name and fall as a dead man before Him.
Obedience -
He is the Word of the Ultimate truth
He is the Wisdom of all reality seen and unseen.
To live iin rebellion is to purposely live in death and chaos.
Hopefulness -
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?
Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies;
who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Just as it is written,
“For Your sake we are being put to death all day long;
We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
