Uses for things most people are unaware of:
Shapes of screwdriver handles
Bottom Drawer of most ovens
Pop tabs for soda cans
Rivets in Jeans
Extra eyelet holes in tennis shoes.
Bubble baths were invented not so much for extra cleanliness and fun but to insulate the water and keep it warmer longer
Hole in the middle of spaghetti spoons
The bottom ridges on most ceramic or stone plates are designed not for stacking or grip on the table, but for honing knife blades
When you learn about and know designed purposes, it makes a big difference.
All of us exist for a purpose. Our existence is not a randomized fluke in space and time. It is not by chance that we exist. It is intentional and by design.
Who you are, your personality, your talents, your passions, etc. are all intentional.
This morning, I want to look at the Abundant Purpose that you have in the Abundant Life that God has given you through Jesus.
11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
1 Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more. 2 For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. 7 For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. 8 Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.
1) Our Purpose is to Know Him!
1) Our Purpose is to Know Him!
God saves us to make us a people of His own possession
He saves us to draw us near to Him and for us to know Him!
He already knows us better than we know ourselves.
Too often we think of this in a negative connotation, but there is a vastly positive aspect to this!
God knows what we were made for and the incredible potential we have when He has His full will and way in our lives.
You don’t know the fullness of who were made to be until you get to know Him and learn who holds all of who you are and could be in His hands.
He gave Himself for us to redeem us from ALL lawlessness
Only one law matters. If we live apart from it, we are law less
He gives us hope that is realized when we are with Him
2) Our Purpose is to Be Set Apart Unto Him!
2) Our Purpose is to Be Set Apart Unto Him!
God’s grace trains us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions
As we renounce these things, we embrace living self-controlled, upright, and godly lives
We are to be a people of His own possession who are zealous (passionate and excited, well-motivated) for good (defined by God) works.
This is not just a task oriented wording.
It is describing a life that engages doing that which is worthy and worthwhile.
We are to live and please Him (as oppose to defying and rejecting Him)
The will of God for your life: Sanctification
No longer led by worldly passions and impulses but rather controlled in holiness and honor.
No longer self-focused but looking out for one another.
Not impurity, but holiness
CLOSING
CLOSING
We could go longer and get into more specific details about God’s purpose for our lives, but all of our Abundant Purposes stem from these two things:
Know God
Be Set Apart Unto Him
Faith and Faithfulness
