Prayer Meeting Devotion

Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:25 “25 Brethren, pray for us.”
Throughout Paul’s writings, who do you find asking for continual prayer?
What kind of success motivated him to ask God’s people to pray for him?
Paul was severely dependent on the prayers of God’s people to bring about ministry success in his life.
APP — If being so…should our prayers be centered on the ministry today?
Question — How can we pray that would help drive gospel ministry to success through this church?
Paul never considered pleading for prayer as something that would lessen his influence or lower his dignity.
Let’s consider a reality where it did???
ANS — let you dignity and influence fly out the window.
Paul understood that all of his called and commissioned by God. However, He knew without the prayer of God’s people, all of that would remain imperfect without prayers of his people.

Questions:

Do you pray for your pastor?
Do you pray for those in leadership?
Do you pray for the missionaries we support?
Do you find yourself offering more criticism than prayer?

Conclusion

Example: Spurgeon’s “Boiler Room”
Spurgeon was a19th-century English preacher and pastor of the New Park Street Chapel in London, England, later named the Metropolitan Tabernacle.
The church held 5,000 people.
With no sound system, it was said that his voicecould be heard by all.
A group of young ministers called on himone day to see the large preaching place.
After showing them his massive sanctuary, Spurgeon offered to show then his “boiler room.”
The guests declined but the pastor insisted.
Spurgeon led them to the basement. They found about 100 people in prayer.
“This,” Spurgeon said with a smile, “is my boiler room.”
Whenever Spurgeon was asked the secret of his ministry he always replied, “My people pray for me.”
If a ministry is suffering, you can be assured that the saints have grown cold in their prayers!
