Introduction:
-Great to be back with you this evening.
-Introduce myself to the new students.
-Piggy Back From Sunday’s Message and go into story of John Harper
“John Harper was a Scottish preacher aboard the Titanic. When the ship hit an iceberg and sank, Harper was clinging to a piece of drift wood. As he was out in the darkness a man drifted close to him crying, and Harper shouted to him, "Are you saved?" the man replied, "No." Harper said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." The man drifted away, but shortly came back into sight. Again Harper asked, "Are you saved?" the man again said, "No," again Harper shouted to the man, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Soon after that, Harper slipped under the waves and went home to be with Jesus. The other man was rescued a short time later by the S.S. Carpathia, and later testified that he was John Harper's last covert. With his dying breath John Harper gave a good word spoken in due season!”
-Explain that John Harper was ALL IN for the gospel of Christ and ask the question, “what does it mean to be all in?”
(Prayer)
1.) Commit:
“A state of personal dedication to something or someone, which results in actively promoting and working for their good and well-being.”
When you commit to being a disciple for Jesus Christ, your life should be center on living a life for Him and sharing the Good News surrounding Jesus.
Luke 14:25–33 NLT
A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them, “If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple. And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple. “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you. They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’ “Or what king would go to war against another king without first sitting down with his counselors to discuss whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the 20,000 soldiers marching against him? And if he can’t, he will send a delegation to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away. So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.
There is a cost to being a disciple for Jesus. Let me ask you, are you willing to count that cost?
(Personal Example: Losing Friends)
Matthew 5:37 NLT
Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Anything beyond this is from the evil one.
2.) Pray:
Jeremiah 29:7 NLT
And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 NLT
Never stop praying.
1 John 5:14–15 NLT
And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.
“Prayer is more than a 3 times a day ritual. Prayer is the communication line for you and the Lord.”
(Personal Testimony: Night I was alone before a Youth Alive Training.)
3.) Grow:
Colossians 2:7 NLT
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Ephesians 3:14–21 NLT
When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
What does growing look like?
-Reading and applying the Word of God
-Reading and applying good Christian Books
-Gathering With Other Believers
-Attend Events That Get You Out Of Your Comfort Zone.
The deeper the roots make plants and trees stronger. You want deeps roots in Christ to keep you strong. (Go back to the John Harper Story)
4.) Share:
Romans 10:5–15 NLT
For Moses writes that the law’s way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of its commands. But faith’s way of getting right with God says, “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will go up to heaven?’ (to bring Christ down to earth). And don’t say, ‘Who will go down to the place of the dead?’ (to bring Christ back to life again).” In fact, it says, “The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.” And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
We will reach the million when we have students sharing the name of Jesus.
Conclusion:
-Call Worship Team
-The Story of Paul and his team.
-To reach a million, it’s going to take 80,000 students who will say yes to sharing to Jesus. Will you be one of those 80,000?
